Devon to Scotland via greenlanes?

Hi all, i am looking to ride my bike with Phil, another member on here to Scotland using as little tarmac as possible.
I am putting out a plee to those with any knowledge of routes outside of Devon that i may use. I am looking to go in late march next year so have a little time to plan it all and i will be raising sponsership, half for Cancer research and the other half to the TRF.

All thoughts appreciated.
Ed.

Good causes, but you may have been beaten to it if memory serves me right, I'm sure we (DTRF) were asked not so long ago to show some guys through our patch who were attmepting something similar.  Don't let that put you off though, it's for noble causes and raising money for charity is never a bad thing.  IT might be worth asking on the national TRF forum too.  Good luck with it.

A few years ago, a friend rode from Lands End to John o Groats. I accompanied her from Minehead to Sheffield via Wales, then from Edinburgh to John O Groats. Took three weeks in total. We got local TRF groups to take us across their areas, while in England and Wales. It was a good trip. I still have the route details if you are interested, but I am not sure how much has been lost by NERC.

Just how long WERE you planning on getting it done in?

I would have thought it prudent to err on the side of caution with your schedule as there could be breakdowns, accidents etc along the way - more so than if you were doing it on a roadbike.

Best of luck though - wish I had the free time to do summat like that!wink

Hi Ed, are you still doing this trip to Scotland? If so, have you managed to get much info about lanes outside of Devon??

Cheers

Mark

The original wayfinder site as far as I know went over to trailwise

http://www.trailwise.org.uk/

As a TRF member you are entitled to full access.

***WARNING***

Whilst it will give you access to lane positions I have discovered after a few exchanges with Brian that many of the lanes may no longer be legal or maybe tarmaced or no longer exist!

So while you could plan a route you would still need to confirm their status probably with local groups.

Just to add I did manage to succesfully tranfer the ALL waypoints (after much agro) from trailwise to Quo mapping and I presume Memory map could be done too.

I only have the devon maps for quo maps loaded, but I guess the whole country could be mapped with the info in trailwise.

If its any help I shall have a look to see the copy I made that should work with quo, but maybe with MM too, but its on a different PC!
