You hear so much about benefit cheats who get everything paid for them and free cars etc and I just wonder how they get it all.
Just applied for a benefit as I can't walk much anymore and got turned down even after an (expensive to me) medical where the Doctor accepted that I'm a cripple and I'm gonna get worse.
Apparently though, as I can walk 150 yards I'm entitled to precisely fekk all!!!!
What a farce!
Perhaps I should just give up and go on the dole - anyone know what dole money is these days?
I was really looking forward to a new Mondeo - doesn't that alone prove I'm sick?

Dave.... appeal! can you walk more than 50 meters without pain?
PM me if you like ... have just been through all this with a relative... can't walk, paid off from work, on permanent sick now, but stupidly told doctor he could ride a bicycle!!!
It is a farce.... you need to know which boxes NOT to tick!!! Good Luck.

I have gone from Pink - to black and because I can't walk or drive my boss has got me a nice new shiny BMW 320 Touring Automatic!
All you have to do, is go three rounds with your recycle bin and it's all taken care of, no complicated forms to fill out - just got to use the car to go back to work even though you are signed off
OOOhhhh there is so much I want to write now but can't as I would lose my job and/or get arrested.........
MMMmmmmm - hang on this is a free country isn't it and we can say what we want can't we?
I think my definition of free country is wrong though and it means free stuff to anyone but those that deserve it and have contributed not free as in the way I thought.
I have had enough, I mean REALLY had enough - I find myself wanting to punch the crap out of everone I meet at the moment, I hate my job, I hate people, I hate this bloody country, I hate the goverment,I hate bankers, I hate scroungers, I hate layabouts - well everything and everyone really!
I'm gonna give up, sell up, by a van bung a mattress in the back and sod off somewhere where they have not heard of H&S, Litigation, political correctness or religion.........

Great idea JT........
.......felt pretty much the same way 6 years ago and upped sticks and moved to Spain.
No worries about H&S (exposed wiring everywhere, builders working with power chisels and flip-flops...), no PC (if you're not a local you get nothing.....hang on, I'm English - therefore I get nothing...)
Can't speak for other countries but in Spain a Spaniard will ALWAYS get preference to a foreigner - be it jobs, seat at the restaurant or getting served in the bakery. Maybe you want to become that "person" that lords it over others - I've seen it from the other side and the sheer frustration of trying to run 2 businesses in a country that has set new standards in red tape is enough to make you want to return to the UK....which we did after 4 years away.
I miss the laid-back attitude of the locals but you get aware that you will never truly be an equal amongst them, no matter how much you try to integrate. And you WILL miss some things you take for granted here.
It's all a question of balance in what you want out of life. Plenty of people old enough to draw their pension and who want to live on the Costas can do so without having to converse with a Spaniard or feel worried about finding work. I am too young to fit into that category, and part of the reason for going was to sample life as a true local, not a tourist.
I get frustrated about a lot of goings-on in the UK same as most/all of us.........but it's home and the country I will retire in.
Back on topic - I think, Dave, you may be able to get more help from one of the Government depts specialising in benefits.......you really need to lay it on thick about not being able to walk (or work) and for God's sake hide the bikes and kit
At the very least Lorn should be able to get a carers' allowance as you can't even make a cup of tea for guests without her help (not sure if that's because you genuinely can't or are just a lazy b*stard......)

feel for you dave many moons ago self employed mortgage etc etc i broke my arm and tried to get incapacity benefit and was told even though i had a broken arm i had to fill the form in myself in front of the benefits worker as to why i was claiming it and they still refused as they said i could still work with a broken arm even though you are not allowed to drive and my public liability insurance would have been void b******s thats the trouble being english born i guess
hang on, I'm English - therefore I get nothing...) Yep sounds right just the same here in the UK.....
I get frustrated about a lot of goings-on in the UK same as most/all of us.........but it's home Was and the country I will retire in No way dude cause as soon as I can I'm off.....
Go steady JT. I spent 5 years in Canada and they have all the same problems, plus loads of mosquitoes and it's bl..dy cold in winter. Did a bit of ice racing on the local frozen river though. Honda 90's made into mini speedway bikes, great fun
I'm not prepared to lie or cheat to get some help - shouldn't be necessary after all. I've worked all my life and in a past life earned an awful lot of money and paid an exhorbitant amount of tax and N.I. etc.
I feel a bit sick at the thought that while others get everything going, cars, houses, money seemingly thrown at them, we (Lorn and I) get sod all. Never claimed dole or help with the house or anything up until now and it would be nice to be 'rewarded' for being a decent citizen. Fortunately our needs are meagre: the house is paid for and we have a bit of cash to live on so we are not in a dreadful way (thanks to Lorns Grandad - cheers Dave wherever you are) but I am entitled........
Or not so it seems.
Reading this thread, there seems to be a few examples of unfair treatment by various agencies and a certain amount of animosity towards 'Broken Britain' (chill JT you'll have a coronary mate!) so once again, how do these people get away with it?

JT I hope your dream works out, I have been wanting to move abroad for several years now, namely Turkey where I have an apartment and have spent a fair bit of time over the last few years.
The main reason it has'nt happened is that thing we all take for granted until it goes wrong. Our health......
All I will say if it was'nt for the NHS, I would'nt be here. After suffering a Brain Haemorrage 3 years ago they fixed me up at no cost. Where else will you get free health care when you really need it?
My Wife is now recovering from Kidney Cancer after having her Tumour removed, so I might be a bit biased. But for all this countrys faults they do look after your health when you need it. You won't find that in many other countries unless you have a fat wallet!
Be happy in your choices mate, but remember that old saying "The Grass is always Greener".......
Even after all that I would'nt mind retiring to the sun and dusty trails one day!!

Totally agree with what has been said regarding the scroungers etc etc,.
Dave i havent got a clue what you can do in this position, however i work with someone (this will not improve your mood either JT), and she is roughly 20 stone (no im not fattest or racist in anything). And she can have a brand new 4x4 motor, for three years then renew it, she gets new change of tyre twice a year, not MOT to worry about, full recovery for free, and service, what is wrong, she has arthritis, now i do sympathise wityh those of you that may suffer this, but my point is this chick is actually in full time employment and earning around 17000. per year from the job!!!!
How the hell does that work when you then see the news and one of the many lads returning from afghan, who had his legs blown off, can also walk about (i think) 50 yds and they stop his money ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH.
God this is absolute lunacy!!!
Not really sure what the rules are for claiming, but as someone here has stade, you probably told the truth and thats yopur punishment Dave..

People in reciept of Disability Living Allowance can divert some of that money to lease a car from MOTABILITY. That's where most diabled people would get a car from. They have to pay an an Advance Payment but "help" can be obained if they tick all the boxes and they can get a new one every three years. Bearing in mind the DLA comes from "us" it's not a bad deal. The disabled person does not need to be in the car at all times. There are lot's of needy cases for this system and probably just as many who don't need it but who haven't told the truth. It's probably no surprise that a lot of people making exaggerated insurance claims for injuries, drive motability cars. See, it comes back to that honesty thing again.
AND..... Motability also can supply "off road enabled" scooters capable of 12 mph, but have to cary an exempt disabled tax , road fund licence.
So there is another can of worms.... couldn't or shouldn't be used on footpaths.... or bridleways? Would not want to try one for greenlaning..................... not exactly a quad bike!
Seems the "cripwagon" has come a long way from the nasty little blue 2 stroke three wheelers that a haemophilliac mate of mine had in the 60's
There is also a motorcycle availiable from motability adapted for a wheelchair, like a monster trike.
Then there was a sidecar thials champion [ a friend of my grandfather] who had a wooden leg called Harry Taylor {Taylor ~ Mattesons of Balham... Big post war London Norton dealership}
Never did find out what his other leg was called !!
Dosn't answer the question why one guy who can not walk gets help, but the guy in the next street who can not walk gets none.
I think the cheats like murderers are few and far between, but when caught get "News of the World" front page status.
I'm very, very close to something like this now...........I know it's not really related to the thread but well, its just.......you know.....it all 'stacks up'.......
wife comunaty nurse suggests citisans advise when filling out claim form ? when our kathryn was poorly we had help ,the mobilty claim forms where a mine feild and the socail worker put us right ,dave @ lorn good luck see you both soon
dave, make an appointment with the citizens advice bureux, they have people who now the benefits system inside out. hopefully they can help you
unfortunately when i got knocked of my fireblade in 07, after getting out of derriford hospital after 3 months, i got offered incapacity of £70 a week, up to £75 after 6 months( 3 kids & wife), i couldnt work for a year, and to add to this insult i would have to pay it back after claim was settled, told them to stuff it, luckily for me, my insurance paid out 7500 for my blade before i was even conscious, and my wife accepted, and we had a few bob in our account luckily,
this country really does treat its own very badly, which absolutely sucks, winds me right up!
