Never thought I'd see the day I exchanged my trusted maps for a Garmin Quest. Loved my 18 months or so of mapping and felt pretty good at it - just didnt like the map turning in the wind and rain!!! So decided to get hold of a Garmin with the thought of recessing it in my square profiled bar-pad. Luckily as I was searching for 1 on ebay, found one for sale that was TVTR Kev's and he readily let me buy it. I'd already had a bit of practice using the Garmin with mm as I'd borrowed Geoffs the week before. So Sunday morning I cut out my foam on my bar protector and to my delight all fits really well and secure. I then created a mm route using about 75% of lanes that I can easily find and some interconnects that I'd have to rely on the satnav to find.
So off we went for the day and I was very impressed with the ease of navigation. A few times where there were lots of turns in quick succession it could get slightly awkward, but no mistakes made at all.
Hopefully my next route will take me out of my comfort zone and more adventurous and I'll see how it goes. But all in all it exceeded my expectations. One thing you do miss out on is your surroundings and area you are in - as when mapping you get a feel for everything around you. With the Garmin it was simply follow the purple line.
And I'll keep my maps with me.. just in case.
