Actually no, they are still in the YZ and working fine!
I have a soft spot for 2 stokes and Kerry invited me down to play with his YZ 250 to test whether his softening has made the beast a bit more tractable- the last time I rode it it was all I could do to keep the front wheel down and the bike in a straight line! So I was a bit apprehensive but after a bit of a struggle to get it to start, the age old approach of heating the plug with a blow torch was put into action and she was soon running, Kerry's mods have certainly calmed her down, you can pootle about without it gassing up, trials bike style, making riding it in the lanes a bit more of a possibility, but the transition from pootle to powerband is still instantaneous, so if Lost does register it I'm riding behind him!!
Equally as interesting Kerry showed me his mod to the gasgas header, I have to say that I haven't seen anything like it before, I should have taken a pic but forgot!
At about the place where the heat shield is Kerry has a small length of tube about six inches long capped at both ends welded above and parallel to the header, it is connected to the header with 2 smaller tubes about 1" long at each end. The one at the front allows exhaust gas to pass up into this pipe. The rear is just for support. Now I have no idea how it is supposed to work but there is no doubt that the mod is (a) very neat (b) has increased the torque without any appreciable loss of power and (c) reduced the noise.
Worth investigating further I think.
I also tried the wrist band, the jury's still out on that one I think! But if it works for you I doubt it can do any harm?!
Thanks for the play Kerry!
