Been to look at something red last night and it was not a honda !!

So here we go a 1986 Maico GME 250 complete and running, taxed mot'd.
Lots of mods to keep it on the road, engine has had a recent major overhaul, wheels have been rebuilt using stainless spokes the front has new rim.
New Stator fitted last week £250 !!!
Home made rad guards, louvers, side stand (needs painting), rear silencer + mounting bracket, engine case saver, sprocket cover, chain slider, front chain guide.

Could be a Rotax engine. Maybe Doug will enlighten us.

Ohlins as well
Very nice Doug

If you don't want the rad guards I find a home for them.
Are there any signs of a thrown chain in the past?

Sod the knee, i started it the other night when i picked it up and seeing the kickstart is rather long it does not need a huge boot.

Only a few jobs to get it ready for laning, rear brake needs some maintenance, the fuel will need draining as it has not been ridden for some time, the hand made side stand is not upright enough and the fork gaiters are not the right ones they need to be longer.

The bike was only road registered in 2005 !! so god only know where its been before that.

Saw the beast yesterday and very nice it is too - looks kinda right wink

I have given permission to retain the crappy rad shrouds as in the flesh they look good actually - but only if he sprays them red or pref matt black.

Looking forward to seeing it in action now - but perhaps when there is a bit less ice about after Sat eh? - to many dammed Artic Foxes and Polar bears about waiting to attack at the mo biggrin

Just seeing / reading posts about some of these lovely 2 strokes, makes me really miss the RMX I used to ride.

The age old debate about 2 stroke or 4 makes you realise that this whole thing is a hobby and neither one is the right option, you really need several of each smile.gif

I do wish Xtriple had kept hold of that IT smile.gif

And I look forward to seeing Dan ride that YZ smile.gif

A 2 stroke only run would be a smashing idea.
Get all the smokers out of everyone else's waybiggrin.

'coarse you'd have to let the fire station know where your going so they don't think there's a bush fire.
Also the Police may want to close off some of the busier local roads as the smog could be hazzardous to drivers.wink
