Itll be a new chapter in the sporting life of Pal-Anders Ullevalseter. After 8 Dakar rallies on a big 690 KTM, the Norwegian (an elite rider) is forced to switch to the new 450 model. A bike he was able to finally test out back home at the beginning of November. Not quite a race favourite despite finishing second last year, Pal-Anders is delighted by his new machine that should be a lot more adapted to the twisty paths of Argentina. Like he usually does, the 43-year-old will try to make a difference during the second part of the event when his experience and physical capacities make a difference.

Watch this Norwegian he going to be in the top 5biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

come on wacky sort your team out!!! Cyril did not look happy!!biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

Am I right that there are only two Brits on bikes this year?

I can find Craig Bounds the mad Welshman in 40th and Jenny Morgan at 115th - out of 150 results.

Think you're right in thinking there are only 2 Brits this year. Both finished 1st day okay so let's hope they can see it through to the end.

The water carrier winning the first day is like Massa leading for 3 laps of an F1 race....you know he won't be allowed to win if Alonso is still circulating, so Mr Faria will "develop" a problem shortly leaving Cyril GrumpyFrogMan to head off.

Would love to see David Casteau on the Sherco do well - look lovely from the front, that bike.

Yet again though.......Eurosport offer us Carlton Kirby for the commentary. What a prize plumdisbelief

Plonker of the day must be;

Robbie Gordon, (nationality American) got the big hummer stuck on a pebble, then was pulled off by a fiat panda. confuseconfuseconfuseconfuseconfuse

Then swapped lids withg the co-driver who had just chucked up in it.

Can you speak French, Spanish and Italian fluently, translating instantly and commentate from a studio in London on an event the other side of the world as the pictures come in? I doubt it, Carlton does a good job commentating on the Dakar. (Admitedly his knowledge of Moto GP is not so good but then he doesn't usually comment on that).
Agree about the Sherco though.

Fair enough comment. TBH I thought he had the benefit of someone translating the overseas journo's comments to him before Eurosport go on air. The only time I thought he was "live" was in the bivouac at the end of the day and the day's commentary was recorded some time after the pictures came in.

Monsieur Depres seems to have had problems earlier on today and has dropped back from the leaders a tad....

We've been using my bruv's 4X4 Panda during the snowy spell.  When he got it, I thought he was daft but the little beastie is amazing in the snow.  Trouble with 4X4s in general is the owners think they will go anywhere anytime regardless of driver's ability.  Then they put 'em on top of the hedge & we have to drag 'em off with the Landy.  If there is no grip, then you are going nowhere no matter how many wheels you drive.  Sorry, a bit off thread & rant over. (Exit to Mutley from Wacky Racers noises).biggrin

Not that anyone really cares, but the "tow car" in question was, I believe, a Fiat 127, not a 4X4 Panda. So even more remarkable that a multi-million dollar car was humbled by a lickle 2WD Fiathmm

Gawd bless Amerricybiggrinbiggrinbiggrin "we big we dumb but we got guns n an economee to support" "So get you n your kayak the f** away".  Not quite verbartim but it was a supply ship matelot one very early June morning within a mile of Torbay's shore, during first gulf war, and I was genuinely perturbed by both the attitude and the potential one sided engagement.

I paddled off but it left a dry feeling in my mouth

Bloody shame - bad luck Jenny!

The only Brit left is Craig Bounds who is a very respectable 46th overall at the end of Stage 4

I actually remembered to watch Eurosport online to enjoy yesterday's action - keep getting involved in other stuff and forgetting to tune in cry

Jenny had a fall and broke her leg, according to Eurosportconfuse

Also retired is the mad quad biker Alessandro Petronelli who started the event with 2 broken legs, obtained 3 days before the startdisbeliefdisbeliefdisbelief
Was doing okay, then fell off the quad and damaged his knee, as if the 2 knackered legs weren't bad enough!

Good to see Marc Coma taking the battle to Froggie Cyril.

Somebody picked her bike up and is out of shot directing traffic away from her.

I was surprised to find this interview with Jenny in the public domain!

Good to see a blue bike winning a stage - or at least one had first time I looked! Cyril's water carrier seems to have triumphed again!

Sad that no Brits left on - Craig Bounds tweets say: In hospital with dislocated shoulder. Devastated, rally over. Massive crash

Seems to be a two horse race now...

Enjoyed watching it this year so far, really impressed with the 450cc's. Here's hoping for a Marc Coma win.

Chinese Jincheng 450 still going!!!!

There are apparently two Chinese Jincheng 450s still going - although I can only see one which is 63rd in the overall rankings - fair play to 'em! Surprised me ashamed

Well done Mark Coma!

The two Jincheng bikes finished a respectable 65th and 69th overall - not bad eh? Especially weird as they don't seem to build anything bigger than 250cc and their speciality is monkey bikes confuse
