Boiler Servicing

Nothing at all to do with Trail Riding!

My gas boiler is due a service, seems the guy I normally use has gone out of business.

Can anyone recommend someone reliable? Or what about these boiler service contracts, anyone got an opinion? Value for money or a rip off?

Thanks in advance......smile

I can recommend:

Rudi Stanek Heating Engineers

55 Berry Drive, Paignton, TQ3 3QW

Tel: 01803 523483

Good service, good prices and a nice guy. Although Paignton-based, covers as far as Taunton.

*** Sorry, missed the 'Gas' bit in the above! Rudi is an Oil engineer ***

Got a british gas service plan jobbie - personally I wouldn't be with out it.

Had my money back many times over, over the years and was mighty glad of it when it all packed up just before xmas - they will come same day if you call them early......I cant fault them and they service it each year inclusive.

I had one of these years back - it was all contracted out at the time. Had some new valves fitted as part of it, and they left some signficant leaks when they had finished - ruined a bedroom floor. Couldn't get either BG or the contractor to take responsibility for this for ages.

Was quite a battle to get damages repaired & paid for, and BG immediately cancelled my contract (without my consent) and simply gave me my money back.

I can understand how this could be very worthwhile, but this was a bad experience for me, so I won't advise either way.

Seems to me that with any insurance you will most probably be the looser, if not the model would not work and the insurance companies would loose money and go out of business.

13 years ago i had a loft conversion which cost about £20k. BG came to do their annual service, but after he bled the rads, he forgot to turn off the loft rad properly. A week later whilst reading in bed at 11.30pm, I heard this creaking noise, told the missus to get out of bed quickly then the whole ceiling came down in the room, plus in my son's room next door who was a baby at the time, but to make matters worse the builders who did the conversion left loads of rubble and bricks in the joists!! It took months to get sorted and they refused to accept responsibility. In the end I went to the BG depot where the engineers worked from, and had a huge placard mounted on my roof rack basically stating that BG were child killers and home wreckers, funnily enough after them trying to get the police to move me, of which they couldn't, they admitted liability within 6 hours of being there, especially as the local press also turned up to interview me. They paid for the repairs and gave us a holiday as compensation. B**stadsevileye

I agree with JT. I had a normal plumber before, I'm sure he invented stuff to help his cash flow. Now we use British Gas for the service we only see them once a year!
