i think the tyre question needs to be sorted out for our events as some posts say TRIALs and some say TRAILS and some in the same post say both i know most local enduros require TRIALs as most land owners like them as they do less damage than a motox or even enduro tyre i for one use a trials tyre unless at a motox track and i know some people dont like a trials tyre or cant justify having both but we need to protect the land that people are willing to let us use for fun days and most importantly fundraising to keep the lanes open
I dont know if the old definition of a trials tyre is still valid but it used to be that there should be an equal area of tyre blocks or more to gaps between them, That is at least 50% of the tyre should be tread or greater, and that any gap across the tyre was closed by a block at each end, and there was a maximum height of the blocks on a new tyre which I cant remember but 14mm sticks in my mind for some reason.
I dont know the definition of a trail tyre, but if you look at examples such as the continental Twinduro or the Bridgestone TW range, they look more road oriented than a trial tyre, and the difference is obvious

Riding with enthusiasm upon the ragged precipice of disaster
Well.....I know we have had this debate before but....
I rode round on my Co 2 yesterday and saw a number of lanes that had had a pair of bikes on MT43's go up them not long before me. I wished I had my camera and did actually say to Doug that I wanted to take some pics to prove the point.
I'm in no doubt what so ever which tyres left less eveidence of passing - for the lanes up here - I'll keep my CO2 thanks
Trials or Trail does it really matter? Youre all intelligent guys and I think you all know what we mean dont you?
We have to police these events, trust me its not as easy as you might think. But due to the amount of comments about having to use a, "less aggressive tyre", the flyer was changed to preferred rather than required, this gives those who cant afford to keep changing tyres the chance to get involved, and to reduce the amount of Im not coming then type comments.
This is done at the risk of some riders taking the P*** and ripping the venue to bits, I now find myself praying it not going to be a wet week leading up to and during the event, then having to face the landowner at 6pm when we leave.
Its very easy making throw away comments via the forum, running the group day to day and planning these events is hard work, to have members being a little more understanding would make the job a little easier and more satisfying.
So please, stop moaning, get yer £15 out, and support your TRF group and all it stands for!
Other makes of Trials tyres are available, doesn't have to be an Peerelly MT43. Not a request to debate the merits of various makes of trials tyres, just an observation.
Vee Rubber great tyres stick like poo to a blanket, far better grip on rock and stones than an MT43, on the road they can be like riding a bath of porridge, squirrely as hell, worth a try just for the experience
Michelin trials tyres seem to last forever, great for grip, until you want to brake on tarmac, then its like you are wearing ice skates
Yep there are alternatives to MT34's but for a good all round TRIALS tyre you have to go a long way to beat them
Beware of Yokohama or Nitto trials tyres, nylon knobbles they were once called, hard as hell, take 10,000 miles to wear out, and as much use as a chocolate teapot in any condition, bloody useless
