Anyone remember the S Devon Scooter Cross events in the late 60s?
I live just off the Exeter-Exmouth main road and there is a constant buzz of scooters going back and forth - lovely
Saw a very trick looking one in Exmouth Friday night. Didn't have camera with me though. Don't know where they are overnighting - its not near the marina where it used to be
Oh! those were the days! me and my Vespa GS. Not a care in the world, all I worried about was having enough money to fill the tank with 2 stroke and me with whisky and orange, no breathalizer to worry about....until I siezed at about 75MPH, flat out along the Indian Queens straight and it flung me off! Great times though and surprisingly capable little machines.
A couple of years ago, I decided to relive my youth and buy another one, until I saw what a good one cost's now. Mind you, if anyone has a Moto Rumi Bol'dor, I'd be very interested!
yep you never lose your soft spot for them, yes looking at the prices they fetch now, wish i still had my TV200 and SX200, kev
Apart from the usual removal of the legshields on the Lambrettas and replacing them with pram bars and loads of lights and mirrors, the maddest scootery thing my mate Adrian and I did was to build a "kneeler" for drag racing. Motorcycle clip on handlebars on the front forks either side the front wheel so you can guess how low it was! Wish we had taken some pics.... I think we shortly afterwards discovered motorbikes and lost interest - I think we sold it to Len Born...
Anyone know why there are lots of Vespas etc. around Exmouth way?
Dont know about Exmouth but there were an awful lot of them in and around Beer this afternoon
Never appealed to me, but it used to be fun in the 70's watching them trying to get past the bikers cafes, before anyone took any notice, screaming there nuts off and blowing blue smoke
Mind you the smell of 2 stroke smoke in the air today took me back
