A customer of our garage who lives in Colyton, Allan Maclean, also owns a property in Campbelltown, Scotland. He uses it as holiday accommodation for golfing and hunting trips in the summer and I think he wants to increase his occupancy by providing trail riding trips in the winter.
He has worked out an approximate itinerary and has based his proposal on parties of 4 and taking up our own bikes on a trailer plus us in a Range Rover or similar. The proposed holidays are over a 5 day period and include a double room each, washing/drying facilities and limited workshop and jet washer.
He has showed me the places he proposes to take us and it is a stunning area with individual day trips to islands in the area like Arran and Islay. The surroundings are a bit like Dartmoor with mountains. He tells me the climate is not like highland Scotland but milder with its own micro climate. The views he showed me were amazing. The riding he proposed looked mostly like variations from single track tarmac to broken tarmac to muddy tracks with granite rock bases. Riding is on public roads or on private land with owners permission. He will follow us round in the R/Rover or on his own bike.
At this stage, he is seeking to gauge how much interest there is. He has worked out approximate costings at just over £300 each to include travel up, ferry crossings, accommodation/B&B. There are pubs/restaurants in Campbelltown which is nearby.
I think it looks like fun and he is proposing to do this between now and March. He can be flexible with where we go/severity of trails. So over to you, folks, what do you think?
Having been up without the bike for the last 2 years on my hols - it sounds good and is a place I would like to ride....(well live actually if I could find a job that suited )
One concern (being a 2 stroke rider) and knowing Scotland a bit is fuel range - I know its a bloody long way between garages (well anything really!) up there and wonder how this would be overcome?
