A COUNTRY track used by pilgrims for a thousand years has been closed after it was wrecked by drivers racing four-wheel drive vehicles. The six-mile Monks' Trod route links the former abbeys of Cwm-Hir near Llandrindod Wells, and Strata Florida, near Tregaron in mid-Wales. Damage caused to the peat track by the drivers, who ignored pleas to stay away, will cost £300,000 to repair. Wynne Jones, a spokesman for Powys county council, said that because the route went through a Site of Special Scientific Interest "until finances can be made available to repair the route in a manner which will not harm ecological sites it will remain permanently closed."
Quite alarming that four-by-fours have ruined a route used by bikes and others. Is that called selfish?

Walked it back in 07' with me dad (pops) awesome road with mixed terrain and a real special place to be not just because of the road but out in the middle of no where
We covered about 14 mile that day, and only saw a fresh trials tyre track (well it was about a month old i would guess) I can see the authorities point of view as multi tracks were appearing and the 'bog' parts were nearly up to our knees at one point this was on foot
