I bet the shop has CCTV and the theives must have visited during opening hours to know what was there to return to steal. I wonder if the police have the wit/imagination/time to go through the footage.
The insurers for the Coaching House Inn at Chudleigh which burnt down recently have taken posession of three months worth of CCTV footage as part of their ongoing mission to drag their heels on paying out. If only the police were that thorough.

He reported them but Police did not respond .
I know they cant attend everything but 3 new bikes left in a hedge is a bit rare .... may have been worth a look
Could be that an officer of the law turned a blind eye? Ain't it good that we know that is not true. We may tick the boxes for incompetent, another for complacent and one for understaffed but we never stupid or trusting despite all evidence ...rambling like a buffoon I am not.
