I used to use washing up liquid but keep seeing the mumblings online about the high salt content . It's a particular issue on one of my bikes ( dommie ) as they're well known for having rims that are susceptible to rotting through. Do you guys use it neat or mixed ? people also suggest wd40 but not convinced . I have to wonder whether hairspray might be a good choice as it's quite a good lube when wet and after drying will help to stick the bead in place and hence reduce tyre creep?
I use furniture polish when replacing a tyre at home. Spray on the tyre bead and it slips straight on and smells nice. Fairy washing up liquid by the roadside for unscheduled punctures.
On the youtube videos I'm sure I saw a guy using something similar to windolene.
Last night I took off a bugger of a 130/80 MT21 and fitted a fresh 120/90 MT21 - that took me a bit longer than MT43's would have, Jeez! I even had to use the tyre levers to break the beed, no amount of standing on it was going to move it - That 130 is a tough cookie! Back wheel looks really skinny now.
Must admit I don't use any lube to get a tyre on, less chance of it slipping on the rim, only problem sometimes is getting it to sit on the rim if a new tyre, but about 50 psi usually does the trick
Sometimes they don't seat straight away but if you leave them for ten minutes or so they gradually creep onto the rim properly on their own.
