After cracking/ breaking a few over the years, I am considering changing to a under size one 7x5 . Less chance of it getting broken when attacked by Badgers.
Just wondering what the consequences are if stopped by Mr plod, ( not that you see many on the lanes!) Has anyone on here been pulled or prosecuted?

Got a standard plate trimmed down never had a problem even going into Exeter and seeing lots of police. Got stopped once and told its a good idea to turn your lights on at night but the plate was never mentioned. I guess it looks fit for perpose.
I've used a 7x5 on my road bikes and dirt bikes for years. Got threatened with a fine once - and once during an ANPR pull over the traffic cop said I shouldn't have been stopped as the plate was quite readable.
I know of at least 2 people that have had a non endorsable fine though. Most, the vast majority, will be fine.
you can get flexy plates , i have one on mine and its full size , but it does'nt have the bs no. on it , but i hae been stopped by mr plod and nothing was said , only about eight quid on ebay
Flexy plate ebay for me aswell only been pulled once many years ago got a lecture on no plate sizes and then lots of questions on the bike ......... any good mate i was thinking of getting one myself etc etc wonder why he really pulled me over ?
As long as the size of the numbers (2") and the spacing (0.5") between letters and the edge of the plate are ok then the size of the plate is irrelevant. Two Torbay coppers once spent a quarter of an hour with the rule book and a metal ruler checking over my Triumph 7" x 5" plate before grudgingly admitting it was ok. I only have two numbers and four letters so you may struggle to get legal spacing with three numbers + four letters. I was happy to talk about anything but the speed I had been doing before they stopped me and was quite relieved when they turned their attention to the number plate. I am surprised that I have never had a pull for an unreadable (covered in mud) plate.
I snapped mine at WWB last year, but still use them as aluminium may be too heavy for the subframe!
If the sub frame takes wacky bouncing arond on the rear then your little alloy no. plate ain't got nothing to worry about mate, unless you've become a man and beefed yourself up lately i can't see a problem
I could hire myself out and test your katooms sub frame if you like?
