Spotted something unusual today slithering across the road between 192-094 (yes the water was deep and cold) and 192-098.
I thought it was a stick lying in the road until I saw movement a moment before driving over it. It must have dodged my tyre as it was very much unharmed and in no hurry to continue across the road as I watched it after running back for a look after an emergency stop.. Only the third grass snake I have ever seen and quite a good specimen, although they can grow twice this size.
After a lot of walking on Dartmoor amongst other places I have seen many more Lizards and adders than grass snakes, you are one up on me as only two grass snakes in my life time
Ug, snakes not sure which is worse Sheeps or Snakes Puppets are scary as well - but I'd rather face a puppet than a snake I think....unless it was Hoggle or any of the ones from the film Labyrinth
Dammed if I'd have walked back to it - I'd have been off
Was visiting the in-laws in Wareham some years back when the youngest girl came in from the garden & said "there's a snake in the garden." I said "no, I expect it's a slow worm" & went out to look. Sure enough, it was a grass snake similar to the one in Pete's vid. Bit of a surprise when you see that angular snakey head. Nothing for JT to worry about tho. We all wear the heavy boots.
