Never had such a wet drive to work (Paignton to Plymouth) as this morning.

Going through Totnes at the start of the Avonwick road there were massive floods that we were just able to get through, just at the top of the hill (leaving Totnes) where the lane joins the road on the left - most of the lane appeared across the road!! And 400m later we're advised by the police to turn around as impassable!! So back through the floods and onto the Marley head road, which itself was sketchy and past a few broken down cars who had probably been travelling a little too quick for the puddle and sucked all the water in.

I guess the 'land' is fully saturated - meaning the lanes will be at an all time wet.................. mmm interesting smile

Well now at work -- not looking forward to the journey home neither!!!!

Tooooooooooo Much, third day driving to plymouth battling thru the floods on the A38, turned on radio devon but gave up after 3 mins of the list of closed roads. Thinking of constructing an arch.

yup, just took the mrs ages to get back from Northleigh - floods every where and the main roads through Sidmouth have massive tail backs.

Just got back from school run, got the bloody van stuck going through a 50ft flood. Lost traction on the silt, then stalled doh Starter motor just clunking under water! Culmstock, Hemyock and Ashill are cut off at the moment

Is this an appropriate time to say that it is really nice here in the Seychelles? About 30' C blue sky and the Indian Ocean is 50 Mtrs from where I am sitting to send this message. Bad part is I get back on Saturday.

Between Newton Abbot and Heathfield this morning there were some quite impressive fountains by the roadside which on another day would strictly speaking have to be be called drains.

I had a break at lunchtime and went for a ride to see what things were like and to take a few pics.

The waters have subsided considerably so I have missed the worst of it but there is still quite a lot of residual standing water plus there is a forecast of more torrential rain today on already saturated ground so it will get worse before it gets better - if you know what I mean hmm

The occupants of this deserted Land Rover alomg the Topsham flats (Bridge Inn in the background) apparently managed to escape through the windows!

This car was washed from its parking place and dumped on the pavement. I took the pic at the bottom of Exton village.

It would have been a sight to have seen the floods at their height but the police had closed all the flooded roads.

I feel very sorry for all the folk who have had property damaged or have written off their cars.

Technically I could not get home from work yesterday as all the roads were shut police.gif , but because I ride a bike and now the secret ways  shh.gif. I was able to get home, it was a very intersting ride!

If you go laning in Stokeinteignhead/Rocombe area you'll probably find a few more "unofficial" lanes available, as the tarmac is hidden beneath varying levels of mud and gravel.

I could have done with a co-driver calling pace notes today.......

Left work in plymouth 90 minutes ago in the worse rain I've ever drove in. Sat at a traffic light was exactly like being in a car wash !!!

Luckily as I hit the A38 I got my nose in front of the storm and had a dry drive back to Paignton with a tail wind.

What have we done to the world !!!!!!!! Is it really all goin to end next month as per latest predictions.

And if it did all end - what would you like to be doing when it happens??

M4/M5 today looked more like a river, really bad, 30mph when it got good, so much spray couldn't even make out the lanes!

I'm shattered - been in work again since 06.30 the extent of the damage/flooding is incredible hmm and as fast as we fix stuff another depression roars in and bosh back to square one disbelief

 

Be interesting to see what the lanes are like blankstare

Just been out for a very wet bimble on the TTR and we are heading for a repeat of the flooding earlier in the week. Water was pouring off the fields this afternoon but is now streaming into and along the main road here at Exton up by the filling station. 

I wouldn't be surprised to find that the road is either closed or reduced to a single lane of traffic down by the usual problem area - the Puffing Billy traffic lights. I stood and watched for a while and the water levels rose perceptibly in the short time I was there. Station Road is already impassable. 

Still lots of water to come off the Common I guess and its still heaving it down here.

went to crediton earlier and drove through a small puddle where the river was rising, came back no more than hour later and it was up to about 2ft already for a considerable stretch!!! crazy and it hasnt stopped raining since :/

So why are we hell bent on using noisey costly wind turbines when norway produces hydropower @ 99% for their energy + any gas is flogged off - guess who too wink

I guess we don't have enough water or skilled engineers to make this happen here and don't tell me there ain't enough hills to run water down biggrin

I don't think we will be driving across the Topsham Marshes road between Darts Farm and the Bridge Inn for a day or two!

I was going to recce Muddy Lane but wasn't sure how deep the little stream on the entrance was so did the sensible thing and turned tail.

Had a long chat with the lady of the house just around the corner and they only just escaped flooding - unlike her neighbours. Hired a pump but couldn't start it when it was needed no

I think the lanes will be very interesting. Anyone near the repaired lanes at Tipton gonna go and see how the repairs held up?

Just got home an hour ago. Drove back from Bideford, made it to Crediton and the road was shut from the Shell garage. Tried all the back lanes I could think of, never seen so much water on the roads and the fields look like rivers. Ended up sleeping in the car waiting for the water levels to drop!! Left Bideford at 22.00 got home 6am must be some kind of record!!biggrin

 I guess the fact we have 12 times the population of Norway and its industrial consumption is tiny in comparison. They have a lot of natural resources and geological features that lend themselves to relatively easy damming of rivers and power production. The big problem with here is we could actually produce vast amounts of power by the damming of some major estuarys such as the Severn but the enviromental impact would be severe. I no doubt eventually it will happen as the needs of the many outwieigh the needs of the few (SPOCK, Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan)biggrin
