I would have thought that Land Rover was better prepared and equiped than the Police ones. Rather than condeming him, I would have thought they would ask if he could be of assistance for future floods. The ideal vehicle to rescue people from their cars etc. As Harty said ........

That reminds me i must get a snorkel fitted to my truck! nice to see some one use there 4x4 for what they where built for, obviously he new the road well, never the less he was pushing the boundaries.
Seems to be a bit more dodgy when crossing a flowing river in a truck, the force can easily take the thing downstream which is what seems to have happened in other cases in the news fairly recently. I heard a landrover was swept downstream at the ford at Meavy couple years ago.
Was crossing lopwell earlier today, could actually feel the water forcing the bike downstream. Never noticed that when crossing this before!
Complete pillock, Achemedes principle applies to all objects immersed in water, unless well ballasted that landrover would have been on the point of positive bouyancy, any strong water current and it would have been off, and another Idiot needing rescuing due to lack of common sense.
If you want to play in deep water use a boat, but then seeing the standard of boat handling shown by most members of the Birmingham navy, best keep both feet on dry land

Riding with enthusiasm upon the ragged precipice of disaster
I think the police reaction is understandable. It is not so much the risk to the bloke himself, because if you look at his Youtube page he is experienced in wading deep water in what must be a well prepared vehicle. The risk is to others who may be misled into thinking the way is safe for their ill prepared car.
I am a very confident swimmer and my first job was as a lifeguard, and I spent a happy morning playing in rough seas when the Lifeguards red flag was flying one day when I was a child. Then I felt a little guilty when two people drowned at the same spot later, presumably having seen children playing they thought it was safe for them, which it wasn't.
