All insurance is a joke for you drivers, best thing to get the quote down is put your mum on the policy aswell, but make sure you are the main driver as the police are hot on insurance fronting. It nearly halves most quotes if they have a clean license and no claims. only have to state the no claims aswell so can use from their policy

Just insured my stepson at 18 on a 1.2 Corsa £2100.00 with myself on the insurance as a named driver with over 15 years no claims, when we changed his name on the insurance form from Joey and called him JO and said he was female it was £700 theres equality for you
Yeah man. Its crazy i got a qoute saying i was female and it halfed!! I tryed everything to get it as close to 1k a year mark as possible even putting my dad on the policy as a named driver with over 20 years no claims bonuses its still near the 2k mark!!
Only when i got it down real cheap was insuring it in my dads name and putting me as a named driver for occasional use, only one company dropped the price and that was on a 1.8 bmw touring estate for £915.. But even if i do get stopped they would have no proof that i was using the car more then i said i would be ??
as long as you have a car its believable that your dad would own and drive then it wouldnt be a problem, its when people have a chavved up 106 with there mum as main driver it becomes obvious ! lol

Especially when she has another car in her name that she really drives
I do still have the supermoto. But that will only be used when that mysterious yellow thing in the sky makes an appearance. Just want the car for work as using the bke daily isnt doing it any good!
You could buy a decent winter hack with insurance for less than 1 year's car insurance.

Not for much longer thanks to the eu, apparently it was sexual discrimination to have young females on cheaper insurance rates than young males, the insurance companies have been forced next year to make all age rates the same, and no the male rate is not going to come down, but guess whose insurance is going up

Yeah i heard about this somewhere aswell. Obviously they was never going to bring the males down. We all irresponsible and do handbrakes everywhere, apparently
Get a classic car (only has to be early 80's i think), & try Footman James.
You could have loads of affordable fun in something like a late model Triumph Spitfire.
I did
What about a van - on a commercial vehicle policy. Depends what your job is though.
I have looked into commercial vehicles and i can insure a Citreon berlingo Van 1900 cc Non turbo i believe for £1400.. It seems to be the best option at the moment.
I've been told Insure the box you get limited mileage ,curfew and a tracker. Sounds painfull but it will bring the price down.
Ive also looked into this. I know someone that has/had one fitted and it did bring it down! But say i do happen to do something wrong, they have it all down and recorded and could use that against me if something were to happen
my 18 year old daughter is learning to drive at the moment, been looking around for ways to get the dreaded insurance cheaper!
as said above she will take out a policy with me as a named driver but we are also looking at her doing a 'pass plus' after she passes her test. i beleive there is no test you just complete the course doing things like night driving and motorway driving, things not covered in your test.
the best bit is some insurance companies will give her up to 40% discount!! down side is it cost about £400 but 40% off of £2500!!

Ive not long got in from doing my last lesson before my test and we was speaking about the pass plus. You're right, it is motorway driving and night driving etc and you can not fail as its not a test! But my instructor said it was only around £150 ? il look into it abit more.

Phil don't even bother with pass plus it's a bloody con , my daughter insurance actually went up if she took pass plus. The best deal for a girl was with diamond with the policy in there own name, and the parents as named drivers, however as soon as she passed the test the policy went up, if we came off the policy it went up even more. It's a rip off
The daughter is now working for the ambulance service in Oxford, she has passed her 7.5 tonne test, her advanced driving test and the ambulance service blue light course and exam, guess what with all that her insurance has gone up, the insurance companies don't even acknowledge that her job is transferring critically I'll patients from hospital to hospital, no she is a professional driver and the risk is greater . Get your girl her own policy and hope for the best. As for having a son the price is redicculous

she is learning with an instructor jon so not driving my car. i drive loads of miles and know i have plenty of habits that wouldn't help with her test
thanks tim. i have told her no matter what she has to be the policy holder in her own name. will have to look in to it properly once she passes.
Well it helps solve the birthday and Christmas present problem, just give them some dosh towards the insurance
Oh and if you go out with her driving just bite your tounge, how they are taught now is crazy, gears are for going, brakes are for stopping, so there is no changing down when you come to a junction just brake, and then select the right gear to pull away. Block gear changes however are allowed, like 4 th to 2 nd. There is no low gear to go down a hill it's all on the brakes. Has nothing to do with safe driving it's being green and limiting the emissions talk about barking mad

hope your right about the cost........ will save me a £££
good luck with the test!
Thanks. Reading some other comment on this about insurance going up after taking the Pass Plus, only a ver small amount of insurance companys recognise it and will give you discount. Dont see why it would go up, but they're all out to make money so it doesnt surprise me

I tend to engine brake quite alot, my instructor said, the driving examiner on the test wont like it, but cant fail you for it.. but if you annoy the examiner he may find other ways to fail you :/

I would like to see the examiner come down the hill into Beer in the winter one touch of the brakes and it would be a bobsleigh ride all the way to the sea. But your instructor is right don't annoy the examiner

been driving hgv's for many more years then i care to remember,
always have and always will keep using the gears to help slow me down!!
I prefer the using the gears to slow down personally. But my driving instructor allways told me.. Just think whats cheaper to replace, A gearbox or brakes pads. I couldnt argue with that one
