I see nothing wrong in breathing in the essence of castrol r 40 , an aquired taste but one that grows with age, in the 1970's there was a well known cafe near brands hatch that used to fry chips in it.
having both 4 t & 2 t they are as good as one another it's just 2 t have to have improved over the years, but on the other hand they could have not got worse. But saying that look at such things as the mz and Cz 250's they just went on forever, you could also look at things like the h2 Kawasaki if you can remember back that far, total rocket ship 1972 vintage and still one of the fastest 750's ever built, if you were brave enough to ride it, few were and I expect even less capable of controlling the beast now
My 250 GasGas still amazes me at what it is capable of, being brought up on villiers engined trials bikes there is no comparison
As far as I'm concerned they are now all as good as one another, it's just the colour and the amount of bits that fall off that matter
For long distance I still prefer 4 t but for out and out arse clenching fun 2 t, but then that's just my opinion after 40 years of riding, however I would still challenge anyone to say a D1 BSA bantam was fun, infuriating bloody minded and unreliable are some of the better things that could be said, whatching a owner adjust with a sledge hammer was just part of the fun
2t or 4t these days who cares they are only as good as the riders, and. I knows. A few older riders who on things like a greaves hawkstone or griffon could still ride rings around newer machines. Best I stop there before I start talking about things no one will remember. Anyone remember the spec of a tz750 ?

The bore was also tapered so no rebores possible, but superb compression when it was new

I doubt fuel injection on its own will be the answer for 2 strokes.
What I have no doubt about though is the future for 2 stroke engines is very good but will involve radical redesign of and overhaul of what is basically an antiquated design. Fact is the new tech thats now emerging is more fuel efficient and potentially with less moving parts and greater reliability then its much revered 4 stroke counterpart.
The 2 stroke as we know is dead and good riddance.
acording to athena racing, duel fuel injection on two strokes (one in the head and one on the cylinder) adds a decent amount of power and brings the emmissions down lower than the 4 stroke. so america will have no excuse to race them more! its worked for snow mobiles!

if well maintained, 2 strokes can be less polluting, i have a 2 stroke 100c scooter and has a catalytic converter on it and i just recently replaced the rings and has a tiny bit of smoke when cold but clears after a minute and it don't smoke at all
and i also use 2 stroke in my van as a mix in the diesel and there is so much info on the benefits of diesel/2 stroke mix and it does lower the emissions by a lot as i have my van MOT'd and the emissions are well down, to me its all down to maintenance
