Went out for a few hours today by my lonesome. Lanes are pretty awesome right now, although there's not many that you'd immediately recognise from their 'usual' state. Didnt have too many issues with deep water, as I steered clear of ones I knew were normally tricky.
Also interesting was how friendly, chatty and smily virtually all walkers were today. Not sure if thats because they've got into the Christmas spirit or maybe because they're not regulars and are visiting for the festive season.
Water at Bow Bridge did put an immediate end to any thoughts of crossing the river
There was also a lane I havent used for a while - I wont give too much away right now - I'll elaborate more after the lane is guessed first (no doubt Pete will guess it as soon as he comes back from the moors this afternoon).
Can you guess it?? (If not more clues will come..................)
You guys are good!!!! I thought I'd see how it was these days after its major grading 2 years ago. I am pleased to say a lot of the top surface of compact hardcore has virtuallynbeen washed away. There are some big water gullies forming and it's technical aspect is coming back. That's a good thing to report on. I'll now add it back on the 'include' lane list.
It was rather technical with a deep, long and narrow gulley*, and an interesting rock step above that. *(Deeper than your bike is tall, and narrower than your handlebars).
They only repaired the storm damaged part and the lower section remained pleasant. Since they did not put in any flood prevention measures the lane has washed out again. You can see the different layers of the repair exposed by the water running and eroding the surface.
Why'd you opt for a 'Billy no mates' run? You could have come to play with us.
Lots of swollen rivers out there today, and a small handful of flooded backroads too, which were fun.
I too said Monsoon Alley to myself before i read further to see i was right. Do i win a prize?
My run was a bit last minute Geoff plus it was already on a reserve list before the last minute drop outs. Also didn't want to ride too long as Kerry has to work most weekdays around Christmas so I have to give her a bit of my weekend time.
In addition, despite the increase risk, riding by yourself is often pretty good fun. Stop start when you want, ride as fast or slow as you want. I had a great time.
