What happened to gruff ? Did it loose power or stall. You should get a cough out of it by cracking the a/p a few times. Post up a pic of cams at tdc as my mate has seen one slip on the sprocket before.

Does anyone have or know where I can get a valve shim kit for a Suzuki drz. I know I can get one from the states, just wondered if anyone stocks them in the UK. I would prefer to buy the kit rather than single shims as I intend to keep the bike for a number of years.
After very brief research, maybe it is worth measuring the clearance and buying individual shims and fitting them yourself. I poster on the drz400uk forum said he bought them for £2.50 each. I think this is the way I will go. Someone also posted that the CRF450 uses the same shims.
Thanks Brian, will give you a shout in a day or so.
No Doug, the bloody thing will still not fire up, taking the carb indoors tomorrow and stripping it on the dinner table so as I dont lose any bits in the garage. Seems like I have good spark, but there does not appear to be enough fuel getting into the cylinder to start the bike, has got me foxed as I have stripped it once and couldnt find any problems. Just thought that I would check the shims while the bike is in pieces. Three in tolerances and one just out so not bad but might as well do it now, it`s an easy enough job.

Ok what happened was, I was leading a ride about three weeks ago and suddenly the bike cut out at a junction and wouldnt restart, would only pop and bang. Thinking it may be water, we drained the carb, no water came out and the bike continued to pop but not start. Got the bike home to find I have a good spark but appears to have no fuel going from the carb to the combustion chamber, or very little. I have stripped the carb, blown it out and can find no problems. But bike will still not start, will not even fart with injecting fuel from the pumper.
Going to check the cams next, Thanks Nige, I had not thought of that possibility.
Trouble is I am not getting much time, what with work and a disabled partner who is not at all well at the moment, so please excuse me if you do not hear from me regularly.
Could be stator issue, I dunno - Have you done the stator tests? ThumperTalk is where you should be discussing this really as those guys live & breath DRZ400.
If I am getting a nice fat blue spark though, would the stator really be a problem. Spent a few hours reading through the stuff on TT yesterday and didnt come to any conclusions.
There are 2 coils on the stator which go to the CD, one could be playing up.
The reason I mentioned it is I'm sure I've read posts on TT that sound like your symptoms and have been cured with a replacement stator, as I said, ask on TT and the resident experts may have some suggestions.
