Going to Derby for a few days as title says has anyone got any overlays as was going to do a bit of exploring with a plan to go up later in the year and stay with in laws in Donnington and watch some bike racing one day and do some lanes the next, taking the laptop with MM and some paper maps but would be a lot easier if had some overlays
Hi Guys loaded some overlays from Nick (thanks Nick) onto my laptop and tried to load on to the RA but as im in Derby the map i loaded on the SD card in the RA is an older version than the one the file was created on and i don't have a newer version for this area so keeps comimg up with file violation and won't load is there any way around this?
They are GPX files so don't know, I can see if I can get them as csv files and as Harty said that should work. I had this problem last week with a route that Craig emailed me and it was because he had a newer version on Memory Map than mine, so maybe someone with a newer version of memory map cold open it and save it as an older version. Don't know if this would work only a suggestions.
Have opened them fine on the laptop Nick then tried to send them to the RA but it kept saying file violation and made by a newer version so then changed them to csv but still did the same. So put the sd card i normally use back in RA with demon maps on and loaded a local file on it ok so must be something to do with the older region map i have of the derby area on the other sd card i think

Sorry Russ i am out of ideas, we need a GURU hope one come along soon
Not all of us struggle with RAs Mark - great bits of kit that cost very little and run like a dream as long as simple rules are followed
I haven't heard of different versions of maps causing problems. Compatibility problems with routes and tracks only occur in my experience when a version of Memory Map client is loaded on the RA that doesn't match the laptop/PC version. This can be checked by going into Help->About on MM on your laptop and the MM client on the RA Russell but I bet you know and have already done that. But for my own peace of mind, did they match?
If you got the maps from me then they are all V5 and will run OK.
Not sure what "OS VER:wince 4.2 core Software ver:v1.1" means. Mine says OS Edition Version 5 Version 5.1.4 which I believe to be the latest version of the client software.
I suggest you go here and scroll down the page and downlaod MM_RA_540.zip and install it on your 4Gb card so that you are then 100% sure the laptop and RA systems are compatible and the routes should transfer.

Not sure what else to suggest
After getting to know the RA i have had no issues with it at home the computer version is 5.4.2. Build1089 whatever that means but the RA version is OS VER:wince 4.2 core Software ver:v1.1 wondered if its the 4gb card i am using that we talked about on here a few months ago as loaded it with maps of all the country when i bought it i tried it and it worked so im lost!?

Go online to Memory Map and downlaod the latest MM client and install it on your Road Angel SD card Russell. That should sort it for the routes but V4 maps still won't load. Have you got a V5 OS map of a different scale that you could use?
I doubt you could find anyone with MM V4 on their machine to help you out
Maybe we could email the segment of OS map you need - just the very basic area?
Brain when i take out the 4gb card an load the nornal card i have for devon it works if i try and load a local devon route so are you saying it is the maps i have loaded on to the 4gb card as they are in 12 regions for the UK and came from someone else, ARE THESE v4? the maps i normally use on the card in the RA were from yourself and I have just cloned cards. Ihad to use these maps up here as i only have regions 1-3 in v5 which finishes just south of me
If you got the maps from me then they are all V5 and will run OK.

I've done the above Brian and guess what!! YOU ARE A ROAD ANGEL GURU! OFFICALLY. Thanks to you and Mark for all your help, this is what makes the TRF as i always say was the best thing i did for my trail riding JOINING.
Going to drop of the family and inlaws in Derby and go exploring , shame i haven't got the bike but was always meant to be a recky for later in the year
After what i found yesterday lanes were ok but a lot of road work in between. Going to have a look at some more on the way home tomorrow and will try to remember some pics
I think we sometimes take it for granted how fortunate we are with the density of lanes we have within close proximity! Your trip and the comments you often hear on events like the T2T make you appreciate how lucky we are
Just been out again mate and done over forty miles in the car to look at five lanes that were marked as lanes only to find they were all tarmac going past farms :(

You are so right mate. Looked at various lanes close to Donnington the first day, just ones i picked off the map myself, most well sign posted, quiet sandy soil near here but non challenging and some just across fields, nothing exciting though
Second time i went out I did over forty miles in the car to look at five lanes that were marked as lanes only to find they were all tarmac going past farms :(
Today on the way home went to look at one of the routes Nick sent me from another forum and found two lanes entering into fields blocked by large concrete barriers obviously to stop 4x4s then just following the hedge on one side the next one was tarmac again maybe not road grade but still the black stuff.
Even though i have free B+B at the inlaws in Cavendish Bridge a mile or so from Donnington think perhaps we should stick to Wales Geoff not that impressedShame really as was looking forward to seeing some action at Donnington park again, mind you as moto GP is not there anymore think it would have to be a round of BSB as those boys know how to tangle
Thanks again to everyone who sent me overlays and helped with the Road Angel issues
