Mines now got 150 hours and its about to get a new top end. But is running very well, everything on it works as it should, gear box is still firm and shifts perfect.
I had a quick scan on ebay and there was only one with higher hours.
Why is this and when is time to let it go? (if i dont want to run it into the ground and be able to sell it for a half decent price)

look at the piston from the exzaust a bike thats been dunked could have a scored piston after 20 hours or less yet i have frends with 125 excs that just use them on the road with 200 hours and the piston looksalmost new
Why worry about it keep on top of maintenance and it will go on for years I know a mate with a 98 yam wr 250 2 stroke no ideas on how many hours its done and its sweet as a nut . It's only since hour clocks have Been fitted people have started worrying about it
I had my husky 2 smoke engine refresh after 487 hours and was informed there was very little wear anywhere internally, but then again piece of mind is worth the money.

At what hours would you be disinterested, or at least expect the price to be substantially lower?
If lots of receipts for engine work can be produced does that go so way to making up for high hours? Even if we can be convinced that the a bike with high hours if still fresh we would still have the same issue when selling on, so that has to be taken into account.
If its a racing machines hours go out of the window, there is no way of determining how much work the engine has done (hard or easy use) or whether it has been maintained properly. If you purchased a enduro machine that had been raced and you intend to race it yourself i would take it for a engine refresh as i would want reliability, taking someone word on how good it could be is foolhardy.

Thanks rich for rephrasing the question. Thats what i was getting at.
My bike had 100 hours when i bought it. ive put 50 on it. admitidly the first 40 were so gental it cant of dont any damage. But the last 10 have been harder and it will get a full race season this year, any enduro around an as much motocross inbetween as i can. It will have a fresh top end next week.
So with the possibility of 200 to 250 hours by the time it comes to sell, would a full bottom and top end rebuild with reciepts from KTM to prove it keep people interested in it?
(assuming all other maintance gets done to the bike regular, oil changes, filters, fork oil, clutch oil etc....)

A rough guidemultiply the hours by an average speed of say 40 mph 40 X150=6000 miles and probably less if you have done a lot of riding on the lanes. Do you want to get rid of a vehicle with this mileage, and why need to rebuild at such a low figure if you are not racing
Hours run and mileage mean very little, useage and maintenance are the important issues

I think the hours are meaningless for a bike valuation/purchase as it's so easy to change out the speedo on a bike - or disconnect it for half the bikes life.
Buy a bike by it's age, condition, how it rides and if its a 2-stroke I am normally happier if there's receipted evidence of recent(ish) top end rebuild.
I think the hours are only important for maintenance work - and then moreso if you race (or some will say if the race hours for changing a part is Y hours, then for laning 4 x Y hours may be more realistic).
The reason for such low rebuild is that they are race hours on the bike. only a few are laning.
I find on a track the best way i can get grip out of the slippery 2t is to have the bike pinned in the top end of a gear. Therefore the bike takes a fair bit of punishment. Im sure i could get longer out of it but why risk it.
