Just reading harty's post about herts trf accident and got me thinking. The wife has been going on about what happens if i have a bad off and cant work, though she is always moaning about bikes she might have a point this time!!!!! Does anyone know if you can get insurance that pays out if you are unable to work?
Yes you can, if you don't mind paying 10-15% of your income in premiums for something that only kicks in after several weeks and only last a few months. Prohibitively expensive really and I decided it wasn't something I could afford, even though the company I work for does not pay sick pay.
If you can afford such premiums then save up the money instead, as it wouldn't take too long to build up a pot of cash which would be worth more than the meagre payout would have been.
Sounds like your trying to talk yourself out of it Steve
I've always thought trail riding is on balliance safer than other forms of biking I.e. road/sports bikes. The offs are likely to be slow speed and laughable rather than serious
The poor chap on Hartys run much very unlucky, those kind of accidents are very very rare, but they do happen.
there are insurance policies that will cover you for such accidents, but finding the right one with the right cover will be a minefield, I dread to think of the cost.
At the end of the day we are trail riding on legal roads not racing, I've followed many a ex pro Enduro/ Moto X rider around Devons green lanes, the one thing they all have in common is the ability to ride within their means and to ride smoothly.
Use to trail ride in jeans and belstaff jacket 30 year ago, now i don't skimp on nowt fully armoured don't mean it'll save me but i know i've done all i can to help protect myself
Either that or stay home, but then the worst injury i've had in 2 years was erecting a 30 foot xmas tree at work with a bunch of foreigners who went ka when spoken too
**** happens mate
You look at stats for injuries and most of them happen when doing something non dangerous, trip hazards... around the home or at work
As previous posts have suggested ride within your limits, get bike fit and ride smooth, pick your lines, ride behind a very experienced rider and you'll learn a lot
its not all about speed
Like pete said you'll pay a lot of dosh for little return and thats if someone will insure you for riding green roads
Thanks for the advice, I was only trying to placate the wife, not sure why I try sometimes! Have not had a day of from riding bikes since I began as a kid, tomahawk, BMX , Mountain bike and finally ttr. I will keep the money for beer!
