Alps

I didnt stop much to take photos, but I did meet a biker who told me you can ride a dirt bile anywhere on the Italian side of the Alps!

The Alps by road bike were good enough, not quite satisfied with the apex on the last corner, never mind there are a hundred more in the next mile and mile after mile try try again. I destroyed my front tyre in the week I was in the Alps, constantly on the brakes for the corners giving me alternating ripples on the braking patch of the tyre. This gave me a tank slapper for every roundabout for the next 1000 mile until I got it changed.

clocked up 4000 miles.

Anyway that may well be me for long distance riding,, wallet and body feeling the strain.

Glad you put the VFR pic in as I was going to ask what bike you were on.  How did you find it?

It's better than a GS1100, more comfortable, easy 50mpg if you're not pretending to be a moto gp rider, it can be fun but not good enough to be a sports bike. but hay it isn't really.

Sounds good.  I'd like to do something like this at some point....

I able to spend hours to months on a bike even when the riding isn't so great, I can put up with days in a row of crap roads and traffic and weather but will run away screaming at the first note of a soap opera theme tune. If the riding is good I simply will never get board, like a gold fish swimming round a bowl. But even at 50mpg the cost of fuel is making long rides impossible to justify, role on alternative powered bikes. Interestingly I found that on long economy runs the cost per distance is the same if you buy low octane 95 of high 98 fuel.

Great pics.... I am finding the same regarding cost as over the last 15 years of travelling around on bikes it has certainly got alot more expensive. I just worked out inc the ferry from Plymouth to Santander it would cost me approx 700 inc fuel before campsites and food so this year its a UK trip. The ferry alone they wanted 365 for one bike and rider!

The Alps are superb maybe next year for me job depending of course

Am off next week to the ride across the Pyrenees to the Mediterranean coast following the rb5 route, we are crossing to Santander and returning via Roscoff. Managed to get crossings for £220 each with descent cabins both ways but it has certainly got more expensive over the recent years.

Cheapest way to the Alps is pre-booked crossing from dover and ride down. The Alps (at the moment) is my favourite destination with plenty of descent routes both on and off road.
