2005 drz 400 S model .I know there are some experts out there who know about these bikes.Problem is that it starts, ticks over and slowly dies after 5 min, then wont restart till it cools down.having stripped the carb ,set float level ,cleaned all parts,i am leaning towards part of the ignition system playing up as it heats up.Is this a known fault?Does anyone have the resistance values for the ht coil, pulser coil?.charging at 14volts,changed plug ,valve clearances good,no air leaks, tps looks good.any thoughts
I had similar problems when the tank breather was blocked. After a while enough air would get in to allows the TTR to start again but it would die again. Took me a while to figure out what was happening

Frustrating arent they!
I thought my WRF misfire would drive me mad, but got there in the end.
Long shot, silencer partially blocked / perforated pipe dropped?
You are obviously on the case, but stator / pick up / lead and cap when hot?
Is coil part of cap like WRF?
Like you suggest, got fuel, got spark - got to go!

i'll get there......probably. coil is separate.similar symptoms to blocked exhaust,a build up off pressure but not the case.similar to a rich pilot mixture but not the case either.clean plug.
Yes I'd agree it sounds like the coil breaking down under load.
My mate bought a TDR with a similar problem It took a while before we worked out the last owner had fitted the wrong coils.
Never experienced it on a bike, but had coil breakdown on a car which gave a similar scenario once.
My KTM did it - Doug may remeber, 1st i just thought it was the plug, as when changed the bike would run for a bit (but I now think that it just had time to cool) then thought the tank breather was blocked.

Finally changed the coil and that solved it....
All resistance values within tolerances and virtually identical when cold and after the bike has stopped.keep you posted
Just a couple more ideas ...is the fuel filter in the tank valve slightly blocked allowing a slow fuel feed through? Do you have an in-line clear filter you can see to be sure there is adequate fuel delivery reaching the carb?
Fuel feed already checked further up this post, the float chamber is full after the engine has stalled but won't restart.

Mine tested ok with a meter......
Have you whipped the plug out when hot to see if there is a spark, also have you tried closing the plug gap up (as a temp measure)?

Sorry lots of questions. Any history to the bike your not telling us about?
Do you still have the side stand switch?
Whats the earths like?
You could try moving the loom around or look for the coil resistance at the other end of the loom.
