Shropshire Guys down to Devon

Shropshire TRF Run

Me, Kwakageoff, Deci, Salcomberider, plus 4 x Shropshire TRF, Nick, Simon, John and Trev

Bikes - CRF450X, KTM450, CRF230 Husky 310, 2 x WR450 2 X HUSKYS

All lanes 202

David and Geoff met me at my place at 8 and we had till 9 to get to Kingsbridge to meet the others so a few lanes were needed on the way so off we went towards Modbury and did 210 and 209, then we moved on to 221, 222, 237 then 250 and down into Kingsbridge and the meeting point, Ilbert Road garage where Laurie was already waiting, we refuelled and waited for the others.

Once they had arrived and introductions had been done off we went and started with 300, 307 then the low 258 then 259, 261, 264, 308 and on to Chillington and 273, 272 and 282 and then one I dislike (ruts) 283 and down into South Pool and on to the estuary crossing and 289 then 290,291 and 276 then through Widewell and down to Torcross for a snack break.

Off again and 275, 274 and 265 then the short 254, next the great 251 (which we found out has a TTRO from 13th November to 3rd of December. Cant see them fixing it in the next two days?????)

Next we did 247 from the West end and noticed that the little used 325 has a nice new shiny PUBLIC WAY sign (woohoo) I wont mind using it now there is proof it exists J also 247 has been regraded and trees cut down L, next 248 and 330 and the funny place, 344.

Next were 242, 228 and 229 then up into Dartmouth and a petrol stop and a snack break.

Off again and up 201 but its still blocked near the top.

So a quick turn around and back down and onto 199, next 167, 166 then 298 and 443 then a couple of Jack Russells waiting to bite our ankles on 165 then 428 and 328, next 163 and the brilliant 162 where the last rocky section has gone and instead rolled hardcore and drainage gullies L  then the short rocky 186 but no, the same rolled hardcore and drainage (what the F**k L)

Next down the hill to our first gates and 161 and 160 down to the ford at Bow 444 where one of the Shropshire guys dropped it and had to push it out.

When he tried to start it on the button  it locked up, so we up ended it and drained it out.  After this we tried turning it over on the kick start and all seemed ok so back on both wheels and we tried it on the button again and we were away again, first 321, 155 and 156 then 245 where a 4 x 4 had to reverse out the bottom for us and then down into Totnes for another fuel stop and lunch at the garage.

Then back up the hill to the already nearly full 144, 143 then 133, 132 and onto 142 and 131, next the bridge on 421.

Then a main road dash and on to 146, 128 and 129, then 154 (Woohoo) and even though we had five people on knobblies we had very little trouble but here's a few pics.

My nose suffered the most on a bramble at the top.

Then C159 and then the slippery 170. Next 306 (Devils Steps) where again everyone seemed to get up ok (all the slatey lanes still seem very dry)

This is where David and Geoff said their goodbyes and the remaining six carried on along 179, 171, 172 then the great 180, next 173 and 174 and up to Wheeldon, then 181 and this was where I left the group and Laurie guided them back to Kingsbridge.

Thanks to everyone for a great ride once again.

It was a pleasure to meet David and Laurie for the first time and thanks to the Shropshire guys who seemed to survive very well on knobblies.

75 lanes and approx. 100 miles

Good report by Russell the red nosed run leader.

Whatever happened to your nose? I thought a full face helmet would have prevented that, or is it the usual fogging issue that leaves the visor open?

My fault  Pete when I am leading a group I rarely put it down, only in heavy undergrowth.

No risk of being roosted when you are leading so you can afford to leave it open eh?
