took out tpft on my blade today. added my old man to the policy, extra £389 quid off premium :)
got a good deal, helmet and leathers cover, RAC breakdown, 6months euro cover, insured to ride other bikes with TP, and 5 days courtesy bike if i need one. for £701 a year for a 21 year old on a honda 1000 rr6
i have a few concerns id like the answers to from some more experienced people.
i have a CU30 (defective tires) dated 10/11/09 and a LC20 (driving without license) from 27/07/11
i declared the LC20 as its still ongoing and hasnt expired yet. but the CU30 is over 4 years and no longer applys? (am i correct?) so didnt inform them of that one, but now thinking about it i think they said any convictions froms last 5 years so i should of declared it. iv done a requote online exactly same and been quoted no more for adding the CU30.
my question is will i get b*llocked for this when i inform them...of which i must do because the gits didnt tell me untill after i had paid the deposit that i need to send in both parts of license from myself and named driver( dad, who is in SPAIN !!!)
he only has the card and no way can he apply and receive a new counterpart (nor would he pay it seeing hes lived abroad for 10+years) within 14 days, because thats by when they need to been sent.
mine on the other hand i have both, but im wondering do i call them first and inform them.. or do i wait untill they get it, im wondering if because it is 4 years (and im told by others after 3 it doesnt affect insurance premiums) will it just be over looked and nothing done about it as its surely irrelevant anyway.
but then maybe im worrying about something thats out of my control anyway, because whats the likleyhood they cancel my insurance just becaue my dad cant produce his counter part, even though hes put down as a non riding driver...
im so lost as to what to do, the only reason i went ahead with getting the fireblade was because mce quoted me so cheap for age and what the bike is. but if premium will go up and beyond like i know it will if the old man wasnt on the insurance, im skrewed. double d*ick dastardly skrewed !
thanks for any info u can give me before i call them and weep.

All insurers want to know about previous claim and convictions to 5 years, though I think they come off your licence after 3 or 4 years.
Just another way for insurance companies to shaft us a little longer.
I'd tell em as it's the less of the two convictions and as you said, likely not to affect your premium. good luck. Hopefully you never need to claim but if you did it would give the insurance company a chance to not pay out should they find out.
Presuming you were 17 years of age when you received the CU30 and only received a fine, then the conviction is now considered spent and need not be declared
Convictions are required to remain on your counterpart for 4 years, but only count towards totting up for 3 years.
I take it your expression that you dad is a non-riding driver being that hes on there purely to get the premium down but wont ever ride it. This seems to be the case for the majority of named parents and is amuses me how much the premium drops when theyd never go near the car/bike.
You will have to speak to your insurers regarding your dads counterpart or they may terminate your policy if not received after a certain period of time. The counterpart is soon (2015 I think) to disappear and insurance companies will be allowed to access the conviction data from DVLA. Your dad cant officially apply for a change of driving licence address to your place and receive a new licence and counterpart because he is living abroad.
thanks for your replies and information, and correct he himself cant apply for a new counter part, but he still has credit cards and other things registered in england, hes been leading abit of a double life you could say. Called them this morning and they wanted 60quid to put the CU30 onto the policy, it didnt affect m premium but they wanted fees for the change of which i thought is awfull seeing it was only taken out yesterday!
so points sorted out good :)
i need the elusive git to get hold of me as they have said my license is most important and that a note has been made that my dads is awaiting his replacement. will try get it delivered t my address and then just forward onto him after.
the reason hes going on the policy is A, its cheaper and B its still his bike untill iv made payment in full to him after some installments. and he wont have it any other way..
Just a bit of advice if the V5 is in your name and the insurance then a claim will be honored. If however the V5 isnt and you are the main named person on the policy it will one hell of battle to get a payment in the event of a claim. I know of one person who did this and had an accident in France hitting another driver causing injury. When it came to pay out the insurer refused saying they knowingly insured the vehicle and was not the owner. Hence the selling of the house to cover the 3rd party claim!
The V5 should be in the name of the keeper, who is not necessarily the owner. Insurance should be in the name of the keeper, it's one of the basic checks when taxing a vehicle.
With regard to insurance if they want to know all convictions in the last 5 years then you have to tell them unless you want them to not pay out when you need them. If you forgot to tell them earlier tell them asap, better to know now than to have invalid insurance.
Cheers Dan

Literally just come off the phone form insuring the wife's new car they asked for detail on convictions within last 3years.......
Things change then I guess, would just say that it's worth checking this as I have certainly had to declare any convictions for the last 5 years of late.

Depends on the insurer, NFU are happy with 3 years but I think you will most others want 5 years history.
Has any one thought maybe just be honest and then you dont have to worry?
"I did"
However I also remember the stunts I pulled when I was young - especially with the NU Riders Policy. I kept my insurance policy running on a 98cc bike that I no longer owned and then bought a Suzuki X7 that I registered in my college mates name!
Got stopped by police once (jumping lights) and when I said I wasnt bike owner they had to called up my mates house. He was out and his parents said "no he didnt have a bike"!!, luckily he just came home and informed the police he did!!! I got away with it........ apart from a TS10 for the traffic light thing.
Cant remember how I got around the road tax obstacle, knowing me I sold it on before it was required.
But that was in 1984 -- I guess things have changed a little now ............................ but where's there's a cost there's always going to be someone looking to reduce it. That's life. But insurance scams and work-arounds have tightened up a lot over the years.
Could you not just do the cooling off period they have to offer, and start afresh?
One of the problems is that most people and companies share the same databases and as soon as you press go on any quote I'm pretty sure all the companies start nodding sagely. Just done cars and bike over the last couple of weeks and all wanted to know 5 years irrespective of responsibility, good job I'm a good boy!
I assure you I wasn't trying to pull a fast one, after thinking and realising what I was told In comparison to what I believed this got posted up and wanted advice. Both have been now added with no additional fee or premium rise..37 bikes and this is the first iv told them about any convictions because now I'm doing it right. Also the v5 will be in my name.
Turns out Mce are one of the insurers who require proof of what u declare, and this is why there premiums can be considerably lower, but lots of insures don't ask for proof and have higher premiums incase of challenged no claim pay outs. sounds daft I know. Mce seem a good decent bunch glad I'm on honest terms with them
