Well yesterday saw 5 TRF green laners, convert their bikes away from road legality and mix it up with a variety if riders (some expert mx) at the Brixton MX circuit nr Plymouth.
Track is an excellent practice track, plenty of berms, small hills, tight corners and nice smallish jumps (without kickers). It's an open day so simply ride as much as you like. Although plenty of people there, due to the weather and nature of the riding, its probably about 25% riding time and 75% chilling and socialising. Good mx of people and levels and all pretty friendly.
Everyone had great fun - including Adam who hasn't done any events or practice tracks before. It was very dry and dusty but very fun too. Will make up (a very small amount) for the cancellation (or postponement) of Whiteway.
Track is open most Saturdays from spring thru to Autumn - weather permitting. Well recommended for a cheap (£10) great time.
Who was fastest? Well embarrassingly no one could get near my young Troy (13) whose form is getting back to real good since his bad accident 11 months ago. Was it a race??...you bet
Few photos
The crew
Pete (Biff), Adam(ski), Troy, (kwaka)Geoff, Wheely(Mark), Rich(Rijonz)
Rich -- Great Air on KTM300EXC
Pete -- High on the GasGas 300
Geoff -- on KTM450EXC - he ain't slow.......although did challenge Troy and got a wee bit left behind
Adam - getting his first air, and plenty of it
Wheely with his son in hot persuit. I managed to hold him off for a lap and half, but when he got past he was gone
Didn't think you were allowed green lane bikes on MX tracks. Hope you were insured, sure someone will be along to tell you off in a minute
Ooooo
Cracking day out and a nice social too. A nice track to ride, if a little dusty on the day. Every footstep I took whilst walking round the track to take pics was like stepping in a pile of brown talcum powder!! I apparently had the best dust-Gringo-tash of the day the result of which earned me a funny look from my 8mth old when I got home not quite fully recognising that it was Daddy
I did indeed challenge young Troy and he did get the better of me on the first attempt but at the second time of asking he was chasing me down and I could hear him behind me for a few corners then there was nothing. Seems he tried a little too hard and binned it oh well, better luck next time young fellow
agreed viking. ive been to that track a few times with my enduro bike then i road it home to. the last time was last saturday the track was wet to say the least that little hill your onabout was a knight mare it was just pollished mud and sludge.
im going to the pcmp track at earnysettle next saturday its twice the price but looks a lot better run with marshels and paramedics should be interesting. glad you had a good day
I thoroughly enjoyed my day of being a to$$er( funny my wife says it quite normal!!!) track was quite bumpy and loose to start with and quickly turned to dust and the vis decreased once you got close to someone, which was not often :). But great weather and good company with my fellow to$$ers made for a great day out, with out feeling intimidated or shouted at if you did not give up some passing room quick enough, recommended to all who fancy having a go!
Like Mark said I've not been to a track day or event before. Previously put off thinking it would be full of racers forcing me out of the way and pushing me in to mistakes but I was wrong, what an awesome day. There were fast riders (some amazingly quick), but not one of the MANY times I got passed did anyone push me off line, cause me any grief or get annoyed.
The track was great for my 1st experience and after a few hours I was riding like a God , riding the berms, getting air and I even passed a few. I'm now converted and proud to say I like being a "To$$er on a Cro$$ER" but will keep that to the track and put my DTRF head on in the lanes.
A great way to spend the day with your mates, when and where we going next?
