I'm after a second bike and I'm looking at something a little more laidback, befitting my greying hair.  I fancy a Harley Sportster 1200 and I've got about £4k to spend.  Having recently ridden a Honda VTX 1300C,  I've dismissed the larger cruiser type.  

There are a few around at the moment and some are 883's converted to 1200cc.  Have any of you got any experience of this type and any advice on what I should avoid/look out for please? Or maybe you've got one, very low mileage, in pristine condition and bristling with extras that you want to convert to cash in time for Christmas. biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

Buy a big twin, Dyna or Softail.

The Sportster Sport 1200 is a good start. engine a bit more powerful than the rest.

 Ditto - cause you will end up with one eventually, I did as 2 others on this forum....

Also I advise you ride one 1st (you may have already) as they are marmite bikes - Me, I love em and like Doug have had them for years (since before they really took off) cause they are 'different' - though personally I don't care for the newer ones.

If you do decide to stick with a Sporty there may be a mech well sorted 1200 I know of locally for sale in your price range.

Ah as JT says you will end up with  a big twin,  but the  sportster that was fun, and more importantly taught you what to do with a HD.   Maybe you should come down to the DTRFG  HD East Devon Chapter for a sunday morning ride.  And no you don't have to be a village people lookalike to ride one.  However fireproof trousers could be considered essential, but you will have to hear the story from the owner of that one.

Thanks for the offer Tim. At the moment I can't afford the bigger twins. You don't know anyone who wants to sell a Low Sportster 1200 do you?
