Isle of wight

I would be most grateful if any one has any information on the byways and ucr,s on the Isle of Wight as I was planning on going over there for a days ride I have been on line and it looks like they have a TRO on quite a lot of there byways that runs from October the 1st for six months , does any one know if after that period they are excisable  ? any one ever ridden over there ? . cheers Kev

Always welcome to tag along with the boys Steve if we go , they do look like they have a nice network of lanes over there and I have plotted a route of about 90 miles but just wanted to find out a bit before venturing over there , I have posted on the national forum but also no replies as well makes me wonder if it's no good for riding even though they have a lot of byways

Just had a reply on the national forum not good the longest byway on the island that runs through the middle of over 10 miles has been permanently TROd a deliberate act I presume to deter the likes of us from riding over there looking on the os map this was the main route and I expect a lot of cunning thought was put into it by the local council when they closed it

Going to look into it a bit more to se if it warrants the cost of the crossing and if there is a days riding still with the permanent TRO on the longest byway if so it would most likely be around may so as to miss most of the bobble hat brigade , trouble is Steve can't seem to find any one who had been over ther recently for up to date info I will keep you posted

Yep, I looked into this a year or so ago, as I regularly visit friends over there, and found out
a) that lovely long byway is TRO unless disabled badge holder, and
b) NIMBYISM well and truly alive, even if mountain biking.
Not worth the trip for biking only in my opinion, we ended up going to the I.O.M. instead. Mega!
Having said that, it would be nice to be proved wrong!
