Barbed Wire was placed across the lane at rider height , it was attached with bale string on each end , this was a deliberate !
Obliviously i pulled it down and put it to one side
It is a narrow lane with recent 4x4 activity which is unusual as its too narrow ,you can see there efforts , horses do not use it as its quite over grown
202-034

When this happened near Otterton the police & press were informed. After some very positive PR & press coverage new unmetalled road signs were put up & there's been no more trouble there.
Upshot is, take pics & report it.
Also a timely reminder to keep eyes open on the lanes, the bastards ARE out to get us

My last ride a few years back before recently returning was on that lane, fell victim to a trap myself. These people need to be caught and made to face the penalties for what they've done. I'm sure I also remember about the same time reading about a trail rider in Wales I think who was killed as the result of something like this.
At the end of the lane or the center? If at the end or near a gate is it possible it was for stock?
Not in anyway saying it should have been there but just wondering if it was deliberately put up to catch a rider - I have seen wire before many times but few I believe to catch us but for a stock move which has not been taken down......
May influence the way it's dealt with - an ill thought out mistake is one thing - a deliberate attempt to harm someone is quite another...

This echo's my thoughts
It was in the centre where it joins 202-349 which has history
Just Above handle bar height , too high for Cattle i think
On many Sundays over the years but more so this year (walkers and the odd lone walker ) have had issues with me using this lane and voiced there opinion

Last Thursday there was a single strand of barbed wire, used as stock control, above the northern field gate of the two fields at the junction with 349. I'll go there tomorrow and see if it was this piece, which had been moved.
I'll also check 349 to if anything similar has been done down there.
I checked 349 today, and nothing much had changed.
Regarding the field gates at the top, the northern one was now lying open, but the single strand of barbed wire was still firmly attached to the gate post, so I dont think this had been used.
I checked along 034, but couldnt find any barbed wire or bailer twine.
I did find plenty of overhanging bramble, which had the properties of barbed wire, most of which I cut back.
I also saw plenty of signs of recent horse riding (steaming!) so still be careful how you ride this narrow lane.
