i thought insuring two twinshock bikes would be simple and relatively in expensive, yeah right - I have my road registered bikes on a £130 policy with CN, so how come after being on hold for almost a total of 1 hour do they come up with a quote of £200 ..... per bike.?! How can a road bike laid up with no mot be so much cheaper than a dirt bike? Surely the risk is the same?
I found a quote for £270 from dirtbikeinsurance with a £100 excess but they say they will only pay replacement value less depreciation and wear and tear, they were unable to say what this actually meant And couldnt confirm that it was market value. Then I got a quote for £110 each, from bikesure with a £300 excess but the bikes had to be chained up, fair enough, but I opted to pay a bit more as my chains aren't thatcham. When I was read the policy conditions they said thatcham locks were compulsory, they couldn't explain why they could let me pay more not to have them and then insist on me having them! Anyway I had lost it with them by then the £300 excess was a bit steep.
Finally the best quote was £125 for them both, but I have to have them both datataged at a cost of 60 each. Which is still the cheapest but a pain in the arse! Got to explore that now
I am on the UKGSER forums, and there have been problems with bikesure..namely overcharging prices.when compared with others,
then they come on the site, message on the thread and ask the person to ring again for another quote, which turns out cheaper..
Mike
Looks like the bikes have to be road legal to insure with MSM but will try them at renewal for my other bikes, CN have poor customer service. It would certainly be cheaper to register mine and mot them every year 😔
Carole Nash, £25 admin charge to change the address. They confirmed it had been done, and there was no effect on my policy, before I said I'll ring back tomorrow and pay....
If they get funny, as posted elsewhere on here I think, say you want to log a complaint as you feel the charge is unreasonable - hopefully you'll find they dramatically reduce it or write it off.
Currently with Bennetts for the XR250 at around £80. Called to add a WR250 just until I sell the XR, and they wanted a total of over £80 to add the second bike (including £32 admin fee + £4 IPT). I told them I would simply start a separate policy as it would be cheaper, and having had a quote, it seems that this would indeed be the case. Of course it would cost another £32 to remove the XR when that went. All this on top of the bike tax 'theft' due to the VED changes last year.
All this after waiting 20 minutes each time for someone to even answer the phone ...
