Oldest newcomer?

image.jpeg

The lad and I were out riding today and my Dad turned up. While we stopped for a brew he stood up on the KTM peg while it was on the stand (OMG) and with a bit of help got on......

He then asked KJ to kick it over for him so he could hear it run - which he did, next thing he took off on it !!!!!!!! After a few 'laps' he came back and decided to have a go on my CRF, to my knowledge it's the first time he's ridden a dirt bike.....

He is 78...

He found the KTM a bit 'pokey' after his Triumph 3ta

Lovely bloke who didn't mind me as a lad going into his workshop and asking daft questions while he worked. I was really impressed when I found out he actually designed and built the bike he had on the bench. I used to wander in there while waiting for the legendary parts bloke next door to find some rare bit made of pure unobtanium for one of my brit bike riding mates (before we all discovered the delights of jap crap that did what it was supposed to instead of breaking down all the time). Lee was given special dispensation to ride his own bike lidless down the mall to collect his gong from her majesty to celebrate his 100th.

Good to see you back Pete

Dad has 2 bikes of his own - a 3TA and a GSX 250 (which I bought new) he got his first bike, a Raleigh when he was 14 as I recall - he enjoyed his day 'off road' so much he wants to come out again.

He has lots of stories - one of the best being when he took mum to Scarborough on his 650 BSA and she fell asleep and fell off the back - he didn't notice and got 20 miles or so up the road before he realised. He then turned round and went back to fetch her and she wasn't happy......

Only a couple of years back he binned the GSX in a ford on Exmoor with Mum on the back (who is in her 70's also) and she broke her wrist She isnt so keen on riding pillion now !!!!!!

His car is an MG ZR which he drives like a teenager whilst listening to AC DC on the stereo.....

An example for us all. I started on the trails last year when I was only 68. My wife thinks I'm too old - for lanes - but if I follow Dad's example I have at least 9 years left.
