Have a 2200psi petrol pressure washer (one of the imported versions). 

Changing engine oil - mineral oil, specifies 10-30w but using 10-40w as I did before (Halfords only had this one on shelf)  

Also had to drain pump oil (to replace front cover) and this specified SAE-30w. It's simply to lubricate bearing mechanism between motor crankshaft and the pump. Question is can I simply use 10-40w here as well to keep things simple ? Or should I but a single grade oil ??

id go to local garden equipment supplies and get 10w/30. engine oil, I'm guessing its got a briggs and Stratton I/c engine. 10w/30 is a must as its just flung about the engine rather than pumped.

30w oil for pump if that what it asks for. so 10w/30 or 10/40 wont be any good as oil weight is only 10, hence "10"w/30 30w is 30weight so more of a gear oil. oil in the pump is gonna get quite hot and thin.

I'm sure 10w/40 wont cause engine to blow up but for the sake of it id use what they say. deffo don't use 10w/30 or 10w/40 in pump.

Newton Abbot Halfords did have two types of Castrol 10w/30 on the shelf last week
This confused me as I didn't know which type my CRM should have in it's gearbox, but I went for the non race type.

I would be happy to use 10w/40 instead of 10w/30, but would stick to 30w if stipulated

10w-40 oil In The pump will be to thin when it's cold and will cause advanced wear, and requires a 30w gear type oil.

On a multigrade oil such as 10w-30 the the "W" stands for winter not weight but have a very similar meaning , so the viscosity on the winter is 10 and the viscosity at 100 deg will be 30
