Hi just after ideas and comments about getting a touring road bike.
Considerations I am a mega short ass Want some sort of weather protection 650 to 1000cc Panniers to carry camping gear No pillion needed Prefer lowdown weight and physically smaller bikes Cruse at 70 to 75 Budget 3-4k
Bike I have considered are the 650 Versys and the 650 V-Strom. Both would need a lowering link but these are easily available and easy to fit.
What do you thing and what have you for sale?

650 versys is supposed to be quicker but I think they are seriously ugly.
650 strom is a great bike, I love mine. Plenty quick enough even loaded with camping gear, and handles superbly. Kept up with my mate on his vfr800 vtec pretty well in the Alps a few weeks ago.
I have just put my name down for a new Yamaha MT07 Tracer. Had a ride on a demo last week and it was so good, I didn't want to get off it. It is light and fun with a relatively low seat height and good value for money. I just know JT's going to hate it though.
How about a 1200 sportster low seat high, the 1200 has the power, engine bullet proof, belt drive good for 40,000 plus miles, takes luggage, parts readily available. Good example below:

The MT07 and 09 are excellent hooligan bikes. The MT09 was on my list when I changed road bikes last year, and no doubt the MT10 if I was still in the market. Let me know how you get on with your Tracer, Chris
Schoe000 - maybe consider a sports-tourer, as these seem to met your requirements.

Hi Doug
I had considered getting another Fatboy but more cash than I wanted to spend. Sporty just does not do it for me. But had thought about it.
Nic, Rally Raid now do an adventurised version of the CB500X
PS If you get that bike that Doug recommended, remind me to unfriend you on Facebook! lol

Nice one harty I had a look at them at the hubb. When I first saw it in thought it was a mini Africa twin. It's a very nice bike but 5k for the Base bike and up to 3k for the add ons too much for me.

You can get a Dyna for a reasonable price.

BMW F800GS you can get one for around 4k fully loaded and with a low seat a really good tourer plus great on all surfaces. Only thing is to watch out for the head bearings but apart form that a reallt good touring bike and looks superb.
Theres a 30th Anniversary 800GS on ebay for 5k but on a 60 plate with full luggage etc so needs a bit of haggling however its ready to go and fully kitted out with FBMWSH. If thats the sort of thing you are after. The luggage expands which is handy.
