Just come back from a nice walk with the Mrs at Braunton burrows. Can't help but think what an awesome playground it would be on the bike. Obviously it's completely off limits and not a legal area and I wouldn't ride there without permission for fear of getting shot or blown up!
I did how ever see bike tyre tracks all over the place....
Anyone know any more about the burrows and bikes??
I recall a claim for a BOAT over the Burrows as it was so obviously used by vehicles for many decades but the stumbling block was that no-one could agree what the claimed route should be exactly so it didn't get approved
That claim will have been for 'the American Road' built by the Americans for their D-Day rehersals and even gets a Wiki mention:
"Some of the narrow country lanes were made one-way for ease of use and where no metalled roads existed temporary tracks were laid. One such track is the old ferry way, which extended from the south end of Sandy Lane across the back of the dunes to the White House near Crow Point. This road was widened and straightened and exists today as the American Road"
Wiki goes on to say that the area is closed for 10 days per year for military training - but I doubt the tracks were made by an Army MT350
