WooHoo Long Distance Trial held on 25th February 2017
The first event started at the Avon Inn, Avonwick and had a full entry list of 80 riders over a route of 60+ miles using green lanes, public roads and private land and including 22 observed sections and a special timed test. As expected, mud, rocks, streams and roots were encountered and also the Devils Steps green lane containing sections 21 & 22, a long series of slippery rock steps requiring delicate throttle control. Conditions were drier than expected as the rain held off until late afternoon and a good display of riding skill was demonstrated.
The winner of the Trail Bike class was Tom Pike with 1 mark lost at Section 16 Preston Combe, a muddy, rutted, rooty challenge, narrowly beating Rob Pike with 2 marks lost by a dab at Section 4, Pennaton, a drop into a stream and another at Section 22, Ludbrook. Jim Ashford was very close behind with 3 marks lost.
The Enduro bike class was hotly contested by Nick Life and Nick Manuell with clean sheets for both. Nick Life was 0.6sec faster in the special test and clinched the top spot. Third place was closely contested by Andy Muller, Tom Bushin, and Mark Cameron who each lost 1 mark. Andys dab was costly because his special test time was faster than the winners!!
In both classes 10 marks covered the top 9 places showing it doesnt matter much what class of bike you ride as all rode the same route !
It was good to see a good number of TRFers from Devon and elsewhere competing
A sizeable donation will go to a local charity from the proceeds.
OVERALL WINNER : Nick Life, Yamaha 250, Uphempston, 0 marks lost
TRAIL BIKE CLASS
Winner :Tom Pike, Honda CRM 250, Clevedon, 1 mark lost
Runner up : Rob Pike, Honda CRF 230, Clevedon, 2 marks lost
Third : Jim Ashford, Beta Alp 200, Denbury, 3 marks lost
ENDURO BIKE CLASS

It was a bloody brilliant day out, my arms and legs still hurt. The organisation of every part of it was top notch, especially having breakfast included in the price.
