Mr Padley and I did a shakedown run for our TET adventure next month.

All good apart from my fiasco on one of the army bridges!!

Bombing along, enjoying the route, I noticed a sign on the rhs which told all commanders of a particular army vehicle to dismount and guide their vehicle across.

Proper made me smile, crossed my mind "How many bridges were knocked down before they issued that directive"!

Anyway, point of my sorry tale is that these bridges are beautifully made, dead flat, smooth - apart from the 4" gap right down the middle, about 3" deep.

The sort that is a perfect for 21" front wheel.

Needless to say, Im speaking from experience!

Its the hardest off that I have had for a very long time, dug holes in the bridge, nearly went through the open railings into the river.

Buckled the front rim, burnt a large bit of my right boot (not me inside) and squashed my right foot - good and hard.

My eldest last reckons my leg looks like a "9 iron", black heel, toes, sole, shoe doesnt fit etc etc.

Luckily, nothing actually broken, we slackened all the spokes on the front wheel, got a large amount of buckle out, sufficent to complete our second day and get home from Gloucester.

So, point of story is "Look where you are bloody going"!

Oops.

Here's a picture of one of the bridges, you can see the central slot. When wet the wood surface is very very slippery!

I know THAT slot from the closest inspection.
My ankle still feeling it, still cant get my shoe on.
Went A&E yesterday - nothing broken, so just time now.
Off soon, so needs to mend sooner rather than later. Tee hee.
