Hi John. Started my Norton ES2 (500cc single cylinder 4 stroke) for a friend from USA. He said it made a Harley sound smooth.

The Kawasaki 500 reminded me of this video which suffers from the two stroke marmite effect in that you either love it or you don't.
I figure that if I have to explain something like this to someone, then they will never get it.
Hell, some of the footwear worn while kicking those bikes over - I guess none of those guys has ever been ' kicked back'
It makes me feel a bit of a wuss for always putting on a boot before kicking my BSA, even if I'm not going to ride it!
Even a little 250cc single 60 year-old Brit bike sounds good to my ears
