Yeah thats not expensive.
I have always preferred to own rather than hire.
The advantage is that you can get on and do any task that materialises as the task, time and possibly weather permits.

Where it all seems to go a bit wrong is that if ( like me) you buy cheap ( eg silverline) tools they will often die when you actually use them, a clue being when they come with a spare set of brushes ......... so you end up with two of everything in the hope that one will hold together long enough to complete the job.
Its not unknown for eerrr people to buy a replacement tool identical to the one that has just died ( often the day after warranty expired ) then take the dead one 'back' to get a replacement under the new warranty. This way you get two new working tools (-;

The upside of being 'Mr Silverline' is that no one steals your kit, so you dont have to fret about leaving it lying around on a busy site or in your unlocked vehicle (-;

I believe hire rates for small stuff is based on covering the cost of purchase in 10 days of hire charges, and hire companies tent to buy decent kit ......

I recently purchased two 'single use' buckets from Tool Station.
You couldnt pick them up when full of muck or even water without the risk of the rim shattering where the the handle is attached.
I took the bits back a few weeks later and asked for replacements.

By the time the manager had been heavily involved and the poor sap serving got their act together, I probably wasted 20 minutes and the buckets were now reduced in price to £1.20 ............
