My tow rope has seen sterling service but its illustrious career is now over
What finally saw it off was towing a TTR up and down the road trying to get it started, Turns out I had forgotten to put the plug cap back on after taking it off to test for a spark
With plug cap back on it started with a 2 foot bump start (thanks Trev!)!
Sorry - I digress
The point of this post is to ask what other people use for footpeg to footpeg towing please? Gotta be strong, light and pack into a tiny bundle - ideally
Dynema (I think that's how you spell it) rope that is available from a chandler, really light weight and mega strong, Mrs sidecar Trev doesn't like being towed as I found out to my cost.
Yep I was going to say I ride a KTM so no need but then I remembered you have photos in your possession to prove otherwise
Bike strap or a nice idea from Trev - Dyneema sounds cool as....
Kevlar tends to absorb 3.5% of its own weight in water while Dyneema absorbs no water, maintaining its performance in humid or wet conditions. Kevlar is considered 7 times stronger than steel, while Dyneema is 15 times stronger than steel, making it the world's strongest fiber.
The tie down idea ran through my mind but brings the two bikes perilously close together and I reckon just a bit more length is needed for safety. Not all my mates have towed or have been towed before and its a steep enough learning curve without having the bikes too close together methinks
But, being a fan of using what I got lying around, I went through all my tie downs and ratchet straps (I never seem to throw any away even if I know I would never trust to use most of them ) and found one that I think will fit the bill. No idea what it is from but it has a hook at one end and the other can be wrapped around the towed bike's footpeg to allow quick release
PS to Ian - that was no ordinary baler twine - I have no idea where it came from but it is thicker than baler twine and immensely strong. It would still be in use if the ends hadn't shredded on the footpegs Probably M&S baler twine - or made by Heineken
The Hook will,be dangerous if you/either let go and it taps the tarmac and flips up and into a wheel or something, or even worse. The hooks on your peg and the other end catches something,it would drag you off because you wont be able to release it. Cut it off ..
Search for cam buckle strap on ebay....
