My daughter is doing a topic in school about Devon Limekilns, we have so far identified nearly a hundred in Devon and over the last few weeks have visited and recorded quiet a few local ones to us, but we know there are thousands out there in Devon, if anyone has any map references and possibly photos that you could you share it would help her gather more information on different areas within Devon.
Limekilns are found near limestone quarries so an approach could be to use a geological map to narrow down an area then use OS maps to search that area for quarries. Limekilns should be nearby (unless, possibly, the limestone was for construction rather than agriculture).
Generally caves are only found in limestone and, in my younger and slimmer days, I used to go caving and have a book on Devon caves. IIRC many descriptions contained useful information such as "cave entrance 100 yards behind limekiln" so I'll see if I can locate it.
Hi Russell there is one at the Wolborough Barton Enduro track on Anthony Rews land.
Also on the back way to Ogwell from Highweek just past Chercombe bridge on the left.

Will check these out many thanks for the grid ref makes it so easy, there is so much information out there but if they dont include grid ref then you find it hard to work out if it's a new one or one you already have, we have got to 150 now but understand there could be over 383 in Devon
What about the one in the central reservation on the A38 at Harcombe. Probably going too fast there too!
Yep got this one but cant remember exactly where it is so no grid ref yet
Yer tis
The grid reference given is incorrect
It appears the numbers have been transposed so it should read sx 8820 8180 rather than sx 8180 8820 which is given and is nearer Bridford than Chudleigh
I think it is at sx 8826 8194 and Google street view shows the stone wall of the kiln in amongst the trees
