Windthorn lane near Compton

cryconfusedisbelief

After I finished a ride out I took this lane on my way homeward.

Its been well and truly nobbled and had visions of being stranded there and found days later as a frozen corpse lol. Part way along there is now a deep bomb hole that my freeride only just managed to get through, its very deep and the bottom is just sludge, an MX bike will just drown.
No memory of this being that bad and almost seems it is deliberate...I tell you for why because just further along the lane changes to a narrower step sided track and was confronted with about 20 plus branches and logs that had been laid across the track, some had been sawn and left attached to the bank and some just snapped off. I cleared quite a few as I was on my own and the lane too narrow to turn easily.

I managed to get up to the next curve and then confronted by hundreds of them. Had no choice other than turn round and had to bounce the bike up the vertical bank onto its back wheel, not something you should be doing on your tod.

Not happy, be warned, some people around there are deliberately obstructing the lane and it often escalates to even worse.

Do you have a lane number? Have you reported to Devon PROW?

  Already been discussed recently here

Probably the same person responsible for the misleading home made sign which says in red

'No public right of way' with an arrow pointing to the field on the left, and in green below

'Bridleway/Footpath' with an arrow pointing to the road, maybe had something to do with it

Quite possibly one and the same. From the aerial view that side track leads to a large barn which is placed not too far away from where the deliberate damage has been done.

I have no access to that forum thread Pete but as long as you are all aware than that is fine. The Cuts to the branches are very recent.

If the perpetrator would like his branches returned I will be happy to oblige although it might make their eyes water some.

We stopped there today, some branches and we had a chat to the locals, these 2 keep their horses just down the lane.  They were OK about it and understood that a solution should be found
