The beginners ride that wasn't

After having no takers for my beginners ride from Bishopsteignton I descided to go for a run across the moor with Steve, who is definitely not a beginner.

We met at 0900hrs with a good weather forecast, full tanks of fuel and some chocolate bars.  It was interesting later on to find out who had used the least amount of fuel in these 2 quite frugal steeds. (Ttr250 and Honda crf250)

We headed north, up through the village and did the local lanes up towards the common where, as per usual we had to squeeze past a pick up parked in the way. At least this time the bloody dog didn't get out and chase us.

We worked our way up the Teign valley, and up and across behind Finlake where the normal road was so covered in debris and water you could almost class it as a green lane.

We did Stonelands, Lustleigh and Hound tor woods then across towards Chagford.

The moss covering the old walls was obviously enjoying the damp conditions and thriving.

The ruts were quite a challenge and we felt we had earned our Lavazza and pastries at Widdon down.

Fingle bridge didn't disappoint.

We came across what looked like an impassable flood and sat debating who would go first.  We didn't need Rock Paper Scissors as Steve pointed out that I was leading so it was my prerogative.

We passed through it safely and continued back passed the reservoirs, noting the signs on the lanes warning of the upcoming Torbay trial.

A total of 80 miles bought us back to the village unscathed and in time to watch England beat the Welsh and the match officials.

Thanks for coming Steve, it wouldn't have been half the day on my own.

Trevor

Ps The Honda was better on fuel.

 Nigel

this wasn't a beginners run, nobody fancied that.  This was a full day out including lanes of all types.

cheers Trevor
