6-month MOT

Funnily enough my car is booked in for its test today.

As I'm self isolating my son-in-law is taking it to the garage... 240bhp 3.5 litre V6 + petrol head SiL - what could possibly go wrong?

Keep safe folks!

Cheers,
John

Good luck with your MOT John wink

I got a bike and a van with MOTs expiring in April so it suits me!

It passed smile but as I have no legitimate reason to use it SORN here we come.cry

Bike MOT in May and who knows whether we'll be allowed out and about by then so that may just have to be on SORN too.

Cheers,
John

Good point John, time to SORN the KTM, and put a new piston in it.

6-month MOT

I had my GS booked in for tomorrow and as I couldn't get through to the tester last Thursday or Friday assumed the added 6 months meant he wasn't working. Managed to reach him this morning and he is still testing and said it would be wise to get it done as when the 6 months extension is up there will be a HUGE backlog of vehicles to be done!

I don't think it works that way Tony.

It was my understanding that if your MOT runs out before yesterday then you need to get one done now. If it runs out anytime during the next 1 year period (30th Feb 2020 - 29th Feb 2021) then you automatically get 6 months added on.

So there will be no sudden rush for MOT's in 6 months as everyone will still have a staggered dates.

RE: 6-month MOT "holiday"

That's how I understand it too. This 6 month extension to MOTs starts tomorrow, but lasts for 12 months.

Therefore those MOTs due this week, can be delayed until the first week of October. But those already due in the first week of October, can also be delayed.

Hopefully by then, things will be getting back towards normal, and owners can book their MOTs when it suits.

We'll have to remember all this when checking out MOT histories on cars and bikes we're interested in buying in several years time.

You can ride a SORNed bike to and from an MOT.

Sort the tyre, book your MOT, ride to MOT.

Ride home, re-tax it when you intend to start riding again.

So the MOT stations are still able to give out an MOT ?

If so, what is the point of the 6 month 'holiday' ?

Yeah I know, its so we can socially distance from the people at the MOT station .........

No social distancing for anyone with a sorned vehicle wanting to go back on the road then )-:

That's right, but it will be a small percentage of people that have slipped through due to being out of MOT when this holiday came in.
Garages are still allowed to operate and do MOT's, and you could still have one done even if your vehicle is already in the "6 month holiday".. if you really wanted to.

And you can easily get an MOT whilst being socially distant, so no issue really.
