Monthly Meeting

Following extensive testing by the newly formed, Devon TRF information technologies team.  We have descided to go ahead with next Tuesdays meeting using Zoom.

To take part, download Zoom onto your chosen device, then please pm me your email address and once it is set up I will send you an invite and an agenda.  For those of you who regularly attend at the Dolphin, the agenda will follow the same lines.

Obviously this may be difficult for me to control once we get going but let's try.  It may be only needed once if we are let out soon but I feel it may have other applications looking to the future.

The requirements for the meeting are that it will be imporant for everyone to keep quiet when others are talking, and to try to control any back ground noise, i.e. Wife, husband, kids, dog, TV etc.

To add an air of authenticity, you could pour yourselves a beer and have a traditional pub meal before the off. (This is what happens at the Dolphin)

Remember, everyone  will be able to see what's behind you, so if you feel the need to position yourself in an interesting location, perhaps we could make an award for the best.

So, if you are self isolated in Singapore, Shaldon, Brussels or Bovey, or indeed New Zealand, travel is no longer a barrier,

look forward to seeing you on Tuesday

regards Trevor

.

Well my last century pooter using XP to do less and less as time passes, with no camera or microphone, was never in the running but the DTRF technical team were confident that my Sony Xperia dumbphone would do the job.
Well my Somerset technical team did their best but to no avail, it would appear that a 10 year old phone model is also left behind.

'So what should I do' whined the old skinflint luddite ?

BUY YOURSELF SOME UP TO DATE KIT was the consensus )-:

So on the basis of a quick google with a price limit of , hmmm would £100 do it ?

I have purchased an Apple iPad 2019 7th Gen. 32GB, Wi-Fi, 10.2 in - Space Grey Brand New ... for £300 (-:

Then they told me about the options to eerrr actually use it, that would include giving Apple my bank details and some monthly extortion for the rest of my life )-:

W.T.F. ? Apart from e-Bay and Amazon I have never given my banking details to anyone for internet services.

Anyway I should be aquainted with it next weekend when I go home to my other home in the Quantocks and might even be able to join a future Zoom meeting.

But ( in a long winded way ) sadly I will not be taking part in the Tuesday evening meeting unless its possible for me to listen in on the phone ...........

Noel, if you have Wi-Fi where you are, I don't see why you'll be giving your bank details to Apple.

Link your iPad to the Wi-fi, download the Zoom app, make sure you can access your email for when Trev sends you the meeting URL link,

and you should be away.

It'll be quiet(er) without you!!

It is possible to dial in on a zoom call - most plans allow for toll numbers to be used - Ive sailed into a number of Zoom and Microsoft Teams calls in the past while in the car for work - the number will allow for a normal phone to be used to get audio only.

Sorry I wouldn't know, all I can do is send you the link.  Perhaps if you have that you could join.

cheersTrevor

I will write up the minutes, it's a shame we didn't get a few more join us, we had space for another 92!!!!!  although that would have been a bit more difficult.
