It's a consultation paper, and you have until the 17th of May to tell them what you think.

Consultation

What a poorly written, one sided piece.

Did laugh at the causes of accidents, none apparently are caused by other vehicles.....all suggest rider error.....

Some people don't like cats. Some don't like dogs. Some don't like Marmite while many don't like spiders. Sadly, there are the odd few who don't like motorcycles.

When I started work there was a bloke in my office who was a kind of mentor to me so someone I looked up to and respected. One day I arrived at work and enthusiastically told him "I've just bought a motorbike". He replied: "I don't like motorbikes" and walked away. I didn't understand his prejudice then and, decades later, still don't.

Fortunately this man wasn't in a position of influence. Let's hope the Oxfordshire County Council berk who penned that piece of bigoted nonsense is also without influence.

Cheers,
John

The updated version is still biased against bikes. It contains such 'facts' as:

Motorbikes are substantially larger than bicycles, so they take more land space to park in busy urban environments.

Yes, but why are they comparing motorbikes with bicycles? Bicycles have already been identified as being unsuitable for long journeys/commutes so they are not comparing like with like.

There are very few electric motorbikes on the market, although this number is increasing, which means most motorbikes rely on fossil fuel for their propulsion.

And how does this differ from cars and buses? There are very few purely electric cars (and no buses to my knowledge - excluding trams). There are plenty of hybrids, but they also use fossil fuel. By far the vast majority use only fossil fuel.

There is an article in BMF https://www.bmf.co.uk/news/campaigning/ where BMF, MAG and TRF are all requesting that individuals - regardless of where they live - complete the Motorcycles section of the questionnaire.

The link to the questionnaire is in Tribey's earlier post and it is still valid to complete it. I simply went straight to the free-text box in the Motorcycles section and commented there; it only takes a few moments.
