The fuel gauge on my BMW F605gs which is the 800cc parallel trim model malfunctions. This is a common problem with the F650 F700 F800 models. From an internet search this is what is supposed to be the problem:
"Regular use of BMW Group Fuel System Cleaner Plus can prevent fuel gauge malfunction caused by harmful sulfur components found in some fuels."
The solution is meant to be this additive to the fuel about every 3000 miles Techron fuel system cleaner.
Has anybody used this stuff before? do you think I am just wasting my time and money?
What is the actual issue with the fuel gauge? Is it sticking?
Hi Rich,
Thanks for the reply. Not sure what is causing the issue but when i fill up, sometimes it stays at half full, other times registered as full, sometimes it starts at half full and it will suddenly register full. As I ride the gauge is not dropping, so last ride the gauge registered half full and the bike was nearly empty. I was assuming it was a faulty sensor but have not pulled anything apart yet, I was hoping for and easy fix after my internet search.
Seems it might be a software type issue.
One forum said it can't read the fuel level when it's full or is in reserve. The member said that if you are empty you should first top the tank a little until the gauge shows a level again, so I suppose that means stopping the fill and turning the ignition on. Once it can see the level then fill as usual. It'll then know that it now has a full tank so will reset the range meter and show the level correctly.
I dunno if that is true or not.
Others just said to reset the trip and use that instead.
My 1190 had an issue where the float (which runs in a tube) swelled slightly so would jam on high occasionally, I suppose that was due to the ethanol content.
It was a pretty easy fix, just pull the float and sand the outside a little, it's be fine ever since.
I was wondering if yours might be something similar but it doesn't appear so.

Thanks for the info Rich, I will give the fill stop a try just out of curiosity. Cheer
