N of Honiton, lanes 181-036 and 181-041 lend themselves for a triangular loop, up the lane towards Coombeshead Farm, down one lane and back up the other to the start of the farm lane.
I rode up towards the farm gate, expecting to ride around, stopped and read sign in photo.
Didnt ride it but checked when home, to the inexperienced eye, appears legal and the sign is the customary "vested interest".
181-036 appears to be one of our oddities as the overlay comment says: "NO ENTRY from the western end through the farmyard. All the hedges have been taken out for most of the lane so you just ride along by the hedge. Not really worth the bother for a dead end".
Inspecting OS and Land Charges maps reveals that, despite 181-036 leading to the farm and a yellow road leaving the farm heading south, the section through the farm is uncoloured on both maps. So, yes, vested interest but in this case probably legally applied.
181-036 and 181-041 both appear on the overlays as legal. They both have ORPA markings on OS.
Unfortunately on my copy of the List of Streets record, the image for this area has been mis-positioned, the first time I've noticed it,
but, both lanes are on there, marked as Public Highways, although there is a gap in the HMPE markings at Combes Head Farm, showing it is not a legal through route, and does not form a complete triangular loop.
The remarks on the overlays for 181-036 says ''Legal-NO ENTRY from the western end through the farmyard. All the hedges have been taken out for most of the lane so you just ride along by the hedge. Not really worth the bother for a dead end.''
The track leading northwards to the farm, is a Public Highway, up to that gate in the photo, after the gate it is private.
So you have to ride the dead end 036 from east to west, and turn around and ride back to the church.
Hope that helps.
It doesn't help that 181-036 is not on the DCC interactive map at all.
